Requirements
  • Graduate of a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education accredited nursing program with a Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Hold national certification from one of the recognized Advanced Practice Registered Nurse certification centers.
  • Hold or be eligible for licensure as a professional Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification; additional Advanced Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support training may be required at the department's discretion.
  • Demonstrate competency in patient-care assessment for each served population: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.
  • Meet the required physical capabilities for lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment.
  • Have near vision, normal hearing, and manual dexterity.
  • Maintain awareness of environmental factors and infection-control issues and maintain a safe environment.
Responsibilities
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests, including X-rays and point-of-care laboratory tests.
  • Examine patients to obtain information about their physical condition.
  • Instruct and counsel patients about prescribed therapeutic regimens, normal growth and development, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.
  • Interpret diagnostic test results for deviations from normal.
  • Make diagnoses and decisions about patient management and treatment.
  • Obtain, compile, and record patient medical data, including health history, progress notes, and physical-examination results, using the Meditech electronic medical record.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
  • Prescribe therapy or medication electronically when available.
  • Educate, instruct, and coordinate activities with medical assistants as needed during patient care and treatment.
  • Provide emergency support according to established policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with staff, medical staff, and administration in support of operations.
