Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or GED program.
  • Three years of work-related experience, or 45 hours of college credit, or a combination of the two.
  • Ability to type 50 words per minute.
  • Proficiency using word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Ability to pass one or more position-specific clerical or administrative skills tests, which may include 10-key, coding, data entry, filing, grammar, mathematics, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, proofreading, spelling, sorting, or timed typing.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, organize and process work, establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees and the general public, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods and lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted.
Responsibilities
  • Provide routine secretarial support to a unit of attorneys.
  • Create reusable document forms using computer skills.
  • Screen telephone calls, compile routine data in established formats, and organize and maintain files and calendars.
  • Make follow-up calls on attorneys’ cases, retrieve documentation and evidence, and draft legal correspondence and documents using standardized formats.
  • Greet, screen, and route visitors and incoming calls; take messages and answer routine inquiries.
  • Enter and maintain case and statistical data and generate related reports.
  • Maintain the filing system by receiving, filing, sorting, verifying, and routing legal documents.
  • Assist attorneys by making copies, delivering correspondence, filing papers with courts, and maintaining office supplies.
  • Provide limited assistance to attorneys with computer- and software-related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
