- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Completion of training from an accredited EEG Technology program or at least one year of on-the-job training under the direction of a Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist is required.
- The ability to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English is required.
- Annual recertification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is required.
- The employee must be able to perform standard electroneurodiagnostic procedures on all age groups.
- The employee must have a basic understanding of electroencephalography, neuroanatomy, electronics, and neurodiagnostic instrumentation.
- The employee must be able to work onsite and meet the stated physical requirements, including standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, bending, crouching, climbing stairs, carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds for 50 feet, and assisting with patient positioning.
- The employee must be able to work with or without reasonable accommodation, with normal or corrected hearing and vision.
- The employee must cooperate and work as a team with staff and patients, cope with challenging patient-care situations, and work around potential exposure to disease, infection, and body fluids.
- The employee must be able to take call according to policy.
- The employee must check email each shift and communicate with coworkers and supervisors.
- The employee must comply with DCH Health System policies, procedures, behavioral standards, employee handbook requirements, and performance standards.
- Perform standard electroneurodiagnostic procedures as ordered and according to accepted policies and procedures.
- Explain testing procedures to patients to obtain cooperation and reduce anxiety.
- Monitor patients’ comfort and safety during tests and alert physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient responses.
- Obtain and record patient identification and medical history.
- Adjust equipment and controls according to physicians’ orders or established protocols.
- Prepare and position patients for testing.
- Check, test, and maintain equipment and controls, making minor repairs when necessary to ensure proper operation.
- Organize and plan work according to departmental priorities.
- Communicate with nursing floors and escorts concerning patient matters.
- Respond to emergencies that arise while patients are in the department.
- Identify and report irregularities in procedures or instrumentation to the supervisor.
- Use independent judgment to make decisions and discuss potential solutions with others.
- Keep recording rooms, instruments, and materials clean and in good, safe working condition.
- Perform clerical duties such as processing records, completing log sheets, typing, faxing reports, recording meeting minutes, and answering phones.
- Maintain required patient, coworker, and departmental confidentiality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
