Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, a related field, or an equivalent combination of qualification and experience is required.
  • At least two years of experience in finance, preferably in Phase I–III clinical trials, is required.
  • Previous experience developing complex, multi-phase clinical trial budgets, negotiating study budgets and revisions, and knowledge of medical terminology are required.
  • Working knowledge of financial information and related operational statistics is required.
  • Ability to develop and perform complex calculations in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail are required.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to understand complex problems, collaborate, explore alternative solutions, and organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects and proactively communicate project status to key decision-makers is required.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with clinical trial startup and consortium study teams to ensure sponsor payment terms, study budgets, and billing grids align with Clinical Research Support standards.
  • Generate sponsor invoices promptly and help ensure accurate tracking and reporting for each study.
  • Review Epic charts and invoices and use OnCore CRA Console, Subject Console, Financial Console, Vendor Payables, and the Epic Research Module to ensure invoices align with study budgets, Medicare Coverage Analysis, Clinical Trial Agreements, and Informed Consent Forms.
  • Work with Clinical Research Coordinators to correct invoicing and bill-reconciliation workflow issues.
  • Coordinate with billing offices on identified billing issues.
  • Produce reports on study receipts, invoices, and other postaward information; develop quality-control checks to identify issues early.
  • Prepare, submit, and manage internal financial processes and coordinate with clinic implementation staff.
  • Collaborate with cancer consortium offices and clinic partners to ensure institutional postaward requirements are met.
  • Create multi-year and annual budgets, monitor financial performance against budget, and explain variances and trends.
  • Monitor and track monthly labor and non-labor spending to allocate appropriate costs to sponsored projects.
  • Provide budget-to-actual financial reporting, approve expenses, and process invoices while ensuring charges are appropriate, allowable, allocable, and paid promptly.
  • Prepare ongoing financial analyses, forecasts, and ad hoc financial models.
  • Review internal billing compliance documents and OnCore study calendars to ensure financial infrastructure aligns with protocol requirements and sponsor funding terms.
  • Work with central offices, clinic partners, faculty members, and research collaborators in support of the research plan.
  • Assist with departmental fiscal objectives and recommend process changes that standardize, automate, and optimize routine tasks.

  • Familiarity with project management tools and techniques.
  • Experience performing clinical trial management or administration and sponsor invoicing activities using OnCore or another clinical trial management system.

Allen Institute, UW, and Fred Hutch launch AI BioDesign accelerator to decode biology's design rules

The Allen Institute, University of Washington, and Fred Hutch Cancer Center have launched AI BioDesign, a collaborative accelerator combining artificial intelligence with experimental biology to explore biological design space. The initiative aims to generate open models, datasets, and tools for creating biological solutions in healthcare, environmental challenges, and advanced technologies. AI BioDesign will operate through a continuous learning platform where AI models propose biological designs, scientists test them at scale, and results feed back into the models. The accelerator focuses on building modular models from tractable biological problems and conducting multiplex experiments. All models, datasets, assays, and benchmarks will be openly shared. The collaboration leverages Seattle's scientific ecosystem, combining the Allen Institute's open-science platforms, UW's synthetic biology expertise, and Fred Hutch's cellular systems knowledge. The project is supported by Fund for Science and Technology, a foundation in the Paul G. Allen philanthropic ecosystem.
