Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree and four years of progressively responsible relevant experience, including two years of full-time fundraising experience, are required for Director of Development 3, or comparable experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree and five years of progressively responsible relevant experience, including three years of full-time fundraising experience, are required for Director of Development 4, or comparable experience.
  • A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.
  • Demonstrated success in proposal writing and submission.
  • Experience planning and executing a fund drive or fundraising project from conception to realization.
  • Demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitations of gifts of $25,000 or more for Director of Development 3 or $50,000 or more for Director of Development 4.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to cultivate, develop, and steward client and donor relationships.
  • Understanding of proposal development and writing, fundraising and/or client development principles and techniques, project management skills, and relevant event planning and management.
  • A valid driver's license, or the ability to obtain one by the time of hire, and compliance with WSU and departmental driving standards.
  • Availability for required evening and weekend work.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct outreach to promote constituent understanding of the Carson College of Business's activities and research.
  • Cultivate donors and raise money to support Washington State University's Carson College of Business fundraising goals.
  • Support annual giving, major gift development, and planned gift identification and advancement.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 125-150 donors.
  • Secure 12-16 major gift pledges.
  • Open and plan a minimum of 20 solicitations.
  • Meet an annual fundraising goal of $750,000 or more as Director of Development 3 or $1,000,000 or more as Director of Development 4.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fundraising experience closing major gifts of $500,000 or more.
  • Experience engaging faculty and translating their research into layperson's terms for prospective donors.
  • Experience with alumni and donor database applications.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience networking in unfamiliar settings and at events.
