Medtronic plc has won a place on TIME's Best Inventions of 2026 list for two products: the Stealth AXiS surgical system and the Corsano multi-parameter wearable. The company announced the recognition on October 15, 2026. Stealth AXiS combines planning, navigation, and robotic-assisted execution in one platform. It supports spinal, cranial, and ear, nose, and throat procedures, and uses real-time data, advanced imaging, and AI. The Corsano wearable is made by Corsano Health B.V. and distributed by Medtronic in the US and Western Europe. It tracks pulse rate, blood oxygen saturation, respiration rate, skin temperature, and activity, giving clinicians near real-time data from hospital to home. Spot checks alone can leave patients unmonitored 96% of the time, according to the company.
Medtronic Named to TIME Best Inventions of 2026 List for Stealth AXiS(TM) surgical system and Corsano(TM)* multi-parameter wearable. GALWAY, Ireland, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ - Medtronic plc (NYSE: MDT), a global leader in healthcare technology, today announced that the Stealth AXiS(TM) surgical system and the Corsano(TM)* multi-parameter wearable have been named to the TIME Best Inventions of 2026 list. The annual award highlights the most impactful new products and ideas of the year, assessed by TIME editors. The dual recognition highlights the Medtronic enterprise-wide commitment to transforming healthcare through connected technologies that help clinicians make more informed decisions and improve care delivery. Advancing connected surgery with Stealth AXiS(TM) The Stealth AXiS(TM) surgical system was recognized for bringing planning, navigation, and robotic-assisted execution together in a single platform designed for complex procedures. The system addresses challenges in surgery, where technologies for planning, imaging, navigation, and execution are often fragmented across multiple systems. Built within Medtronic's AiBLE(TM) smart ecosystem, the Stealth AXiS(TM) system supports spinal, cranial, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) procedures by integrating real-time data, advanced imaging, and AI-based capabilities into the surgical workflow to create a more connected approach to care across the surgical journey. "Being named a TIME Best Invention is meaningful recognition of the innovation behind the Stealth AXiS(TM) system and our commitment to advancing the connected surgical ecosystem," said Michael Carter, president of the Cranial and Spinal Technologies operating unit within the Neuroscience Portfolio at Medtronic. "Our goal is to help surgical teams work with greater connectivity and intelligence by bringing planning, navigation, and robotics together in one integrated platform." Expanding continuous patient monitoring with Corsano(TM)* multi-parameter wearable The Corsano(TM)* multi-parameter wearable was recognized for its ability to extend clinical visibility beyond traditional bedside monitoring through a lightweight, tetherless wearable designed to capture key vital parameters and trending information to inform clinical decision making. Manufactured by Corsano Health B.V. and distributed in the U.S. and Western Europe by Medtronic, the wearable provides clinicians access to patient data in near real time, from the hospital to the home setting. While spot checking alone can leave patients unmonitored 96% of the time[1], the medical-grade wearable monitors pulse rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO[2]), respiration rate, skin temperature, and activity, helping clinicians access timely patient information while enabling patient mobility and comfort. "This recognition on the TIME Best Inventions list is a testament to what's made possible by the next generation of patient monitoring," said Kate Benedict, president of the Acute Care & Monitoring operating unit within the Medical Surgical Portfolio at Medtronic. "The Corsano(TM)* multi-parameter wearable meaningfully expands our portfolio of wearable patient monitoring solutions and reflects our commitment to helping clinicians stay connected to patient data wherever care is delivered, enabling more informed decisions with patient insights." Medtronic pays more today. Abbott raises its dividend faster. Which stock wins? Both are Dividend Kings with decades of consecutive raises, but Medtronic and Abbott reward income investors in fundamentally different ways, and choosing the wrong one in retirement could cost you more than you expect. Medtronic (NYSE:MDT | MDT Price Prediction) or Abbott Laboratories (NYSE:ABT): which medical device dividend stock better suits income needs in retirement? Both stocks outperformed competitors on a strong trading day Monday, but they pay income investors in very different ways. Medtronic offers the higher current payout and covers it with cleaner cash flow. Abbott raises its dividend faster. Medtronic's higher, better-covered yield carries more weight when you live on the checks. Yield: Medtronic pays more per dollar invested. Medtronic's forward annual dividend of $2.88 yields 3.22% with the stock at $91.93. Abbott's forward dividend of $2.52 yields 2.49% at $102.35. Medtronic also costs less: about 15x forward earnings versus 17x for Abbott, and 23x trailing earnings versus 34x. Winner: Medtronic. More income up front, at a lower multiple. Dividend safety: Medtronic's coverage holds up better. On trailing GAAP EPS of $4.07, Medtronic pays out about 70%. Abbott pays out roughly 82% of its $3.03. The $21 billion Exact Sciences acquisition is weighing on Abbott's GAAP results: second-quarter GAAP EPS fell to $0.53 from $1.01, interest expense rose to $299M from $50M, and the company recorded a $385M legal reserve. On adjusted guidance the two look closer. Medtronic's dividend is about 48% of its $5.94 to $6.00 fiscal 2027 guide's low end, and Abbott's is about 46% of its $5.45 to $5.60 range. Free cash flow gives Medtronic the edge. Medtronic generated $5.43B of free cash flow in fiscal 2026, and first-quarter free cash flow of $1.29B covered $921 million in dividends, a payout of roughly 71%. Abbott's cash flow commentary was limited to guidance that cash generation is "likely going to put us ahead of our January forecast for the year." The businesses behind the payouts carry different revenue mixes. Medtronic sells procedure hardware: pacemakers in a Cardiac Rhythm Management unit with more than $5.5 billion in annual revenue, ablation systems growing 88%, a surgical business above $6 billion, and spine robotics. Separating its lower-margin Diabetes unit should lift operating margin by about 100 basis points. Abbott spreads its revenue more widely: devices brought in $5.85B of $12.59B in quarterly revenue, with diagnostics (now including Cologuard), branded generics, and nutrition making up the rest. That diversity helps, but nutrition declined 3.1% and U.S. Structural Heart sales fell 9.8%. Free Report, Just Released Why Didn't ABT Make The Top 10 List? 24/7 Wall St has helped investors make money for over two decades, and our top analysts just finished ranking the definitive Top 10 Stocks To Buy Now. Not the ten biggest companies. Not the ten everyone is arguing about. The ten best stocks to buy right now. And ABT didn't make the cut! The report is free, and you can see why we think each stock is a top investment today. Winner: Medtronic. Dividend growth: Abbott compounds faster. Abbott just made its 54th consecutive year of increases, and Medtronic its 49th, putting both firmly in Dividend King territory (we ranked ten Kings by valuation in a free report). Dividend records back to 1999 show annual raises for both, with one exception: Abbott's quarterly payment fell from $0.51 to $0.14 in 2013, when it spun off AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV). Abbott counts its run as unbroken on a combined basis. Abbott wins easily on pace. Its 2026 raise from $0.59 to $0.63 came to about 6.8%. Medtronic went from $0.71 to $0.72, about 1.4%. Since 2016, Abbott's quarterly payment is up roughly 142%, compared with 67% for Medtronic. Winner: Abbott. Verdict: Medtronic is the retiree's dividend stock. Medtronic wins for retirement-focused income investors. It wins two of the three areas, and those two matter most once you start drawing income: a higher starting yield and cash coverage you can actually see. Its small raises are the weak spot, but the business underlying is speeding up. Fiscal 2026 revenue rose 8.43%, and management raised its fiscal 2027 organic growth guide to 7.25% to 7.75%. With the margin lift from the Diabetes separation on top, Medtronic has room to raise faster. Abbott suits investors with 15 or more years before retirement who reinvest their dividends. Its price return of 200.92% over ten years crushes Medtronic's 45.41%, and a 21.01% drop over the past year leaves the stock below its old highs. For income you need now, though, Medtronic pays more and covers it better. Got $1,000? Before you buy ABT, read this. If you have cash sitting in your account right now, give this two minutes. Medtronic hires former Recor CEO Lara Barghout to lead Cardiology unit. Published. October 12, 2026 Medtronic has put former Recor Medical chief executive Lara Barghout in charge of its Interventional Cardiology Therapies business, bringing in a leader who previously oversaw a competing hypertension device. Her remit covers structural heart, coronary, and hypertension management products. During her Recor tenure, the Paradise device became the first renal denervation system to receive FDA approval for uncontrolled high blood pressure, MedTech Dive reported. Medtronic's competing Symplicity Spyral secured approval weeks later. "Lara brings proven leadership in the cardiovascular space," Medtronic told MedTech Dive in an emailed statement. Her appointment follows a reorganization dividing the cardiovascular portfolio into four businesses, including the unit she now leads. Earlier roles included senior vice president and head of advanced therapies at Siemens Healthineers and an executive position at Terumo Cardiovascular. She joined Recor as president and chief executive in January 2023 and left in February 2026. Other leadership changes preceded the hire. Jason Fontana, formerly vice president and general manager of renal denervation, announced his departure. Jason Weidman, previously president of coronary and renal denervation, left in the spring to become Teleflex CEO.
Medtronic shares have fallen more than 7% in the past 12 months, while the broader market gained 17%. At $86.38, the stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of about 14.4. The medical-device maker raised its fiscal 2027 outlook in September. It now expects organic revenue growth of 7.25% to 7.75% and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share of $5.94 to $6.00. First-quarter organic revenue rose 13.7% to $9.8 billion. Cardiovascular grew 18.9%, diabetes 14.9%, and neuroscience 9.3%. However, an extra fiscal week added about $570 million to organic growth, flattering the result. Whether the momentum lasts will decide if the stock re-rates.
