  • 2+ years of experience managing a team
  • 4+ years of writing and reporting experience at a publisher or website
  • Deep knowledge of actors, comedians, streamers, and other audiences relevant to Complex
  • Possess a deep understanding of all social media and streaming platforms (TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, Kick, Snapchat)
  • Demonstrable commitment to accuracy; fact-checking or copy editing background a plus

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills—ability to perform in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment and think quickly and strategically to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong understanding of analytics and social media trends across platforms
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
Responsibilities
  • Guide editorial voice for Complex Pop Culture, curating taste and tone of channel, and ensure that both are represented across editorial
  • Manage freelance assignments according to vertical budget and goals
  • Drive comprehensive coverage of film and tv, streaming personalities, viral moments, influencers, video games, memes, and internet culture, with a keen eye for how pop culture crosses over into music, sports, and style
  • Edit Complex Internet Culture features, ranging from daily features to premium and evergreen content
  • Craft timely pitches and editorial content related to the world of Pop Culture
  • Communicate with the Head of Pop Culture to develop stories and strategize coverage around major moments and events
  • Work with Head of Pop Culture to conceptualize strategies to best distribute content via our networks, from social media to our video properties
  • Working with the head of Pop Culture, establish priority subjects and categories for coverage
  • Serve as the point-person on goals across .com (pageviews and output) for Complex Pop Culture, working closely with the Social Editor, Pop Culture to execute vertical-specific tactics, strategic pivots, and provide added direction when needed
  • Communicate with other departments to develop stories, strategize coverage, and spearhead new ways to attract loyal readers
  • Ideate social-first ideas and tactics in partnership with social, video, and production teams for content that lives across socials
  • Help guide junior staff to further their growth as skilled editors, reporters, and brand ambassadors for Complex
Desired Qualifications
