Renault invests € 600 million in Spanish production plants.

Renault invests € 600 million in Spanish production plants. September 25, 2026 Renault has announced it will invest 600 million in two of its Spanish plants by 2030. This will allow the brand to produce new models and secure 6.000 jobs in the region. The goal is to prepare the group's plants in Valladolid and Palencia to produce five new vehicles, including two electric cars. The investment also includes a new battery assembly line in Valladolid. The two EVs that are planned for production will be mid-sized models. They will be based on Renault's RGEV Medium 2.0 EV platform, specifically designed for electric cars. The production of electric cars marks a first in Renault's 75-year history of production in Spain. Long-term engagement. With the announcement, Renault confirms its long-term engagement to Spain, while also securing 6.000 direct jobs. The investment follows the signing of the 2026-2028 collective labor agreement. Renault will fund the 600 million investment, but Spanish regional and national governments will also contribute. The French group has a strong presence in Spain, with production sites in Valladolid, Palencia and Sevilla. Its involvement in automotive production began in the early 1950s. It began with Renault 4CV production at the FASA (Fabricación de Automóviles Sociedad Anónima) plant in Valladolid, which later became a Renault subsidiary. Renault cites Spain's competitiveness as one reason for the new investment plan. The country is Europe's fourth-largest economy, but the second-largest for vehicle production. With 1.77 million cars produced in 2025, according to ACEA, only Germany is more active. Spain is followed by the Czech Republic and France, Renault's home country. Bold statement. A 600 million euro investment is a bold statement at a time when European automotive plants, in general, are operating at only 50% capacity. Recently, plants have closed, such as Audi Brussels. Others are planned for reconversion, like the VW plant in Osnabrück, which is destined to be a production facility for an Israeli weapons company. Other automakers have made agreements with Chinese brands to produce their cars in Europe, to avoid EU import duties. That is the case for the Ford plant in Valencia, which will be adding 4 new models in the coming years, including some from Geely. The Stellantis plant in Madrid will produce models for Leapmotor, a brand which it partly owns.

Renault revives the R8 Gordini. A sporty, electric rear-wheel-drive car.

Renault revives the R8 Gordini. A sporty, electric rear-wheel-drive car. Renault will unveil the R8 Gordini Concept, an electric sports car for a new era. It is presented as a two-door, two-seat coupé, with a rear motor producing 270 hp, and promising driving pleasure. Sep 25, 2026, 23:57 Most read. Renault is committed to bringing back into service some of its most memorable models of yesteryear. After reviving the R5, R4 and R5 Turbo 3E, the return of the R8 Gordini is now on the table, the sporty version of the family model R8, a four-door, five-seat vehicle produced between 1962 and 1976. Its successor, still as a concept, will be on display to the public during the upcoming Paris Motor Show, from October 12 to 18. The R8 Gordini is the most powerful and sporty version of the R8, a model that was launched with a small longitudinal rear engine placed behind the rear axle (with the gearbox facing forward), as if it were a small Porsche 911, with the weight 'hanging' behind the rear axle. The R8 initially appeared with a 956 cc engine and 44 hp, with the Gordini version launched in 1964, equipped with a 1.1-litre engine with 95 hp. This engine would be replaced two years later by a 1.3-litre unit with 110 hp, a figure that was impressive at the time, especially because it was associated with a sports car measuring just 4 metres and weighing 853 kg. The return of the R8 Gordini is entrusted to a three-box coupé with just two doors, 4.12 m long, which for now is only a concept, following the strategy Renault adopted before with the R5, R4 and R5 Turbo 3E, first moving ahead with a prototype to assess the reactions of potential buyers, and then moving to series production if the response is positive. And, given the reactions to the first images of the modern-day R8 Gordini, which returns after 56 years of absence, everything suggests that the future looks well on track for this sort of electric BMW M2. The Renault 8 Gordini Concept starts by inheriting a front-end styling solution that revives the arrangement that characterised the model when it competed in competitions, more specifically in rallies, complete with two auxiliary headlights. The rear displays a huge diffuser but, in essence, respects the also vertical rear of the 1964 Gordini, somewhat similar to what happens with the wheel arches, which are square rather than round. But the concept's greatest styling asset is the huge widening of the four wheel arches, which makes a good combination with a smaller cabin and space for only two seats. And, as could not fail to be the case, the concept's interior is full of elements inherited from the original model, but in a modern, functional and slightly futuristic environment. Flash sale: annual plans with up to 60% off, from €23.90/year. Flash sale until September 28 at 11:00. In mechanical terms, Renault has guaranteed that its future R8 Gordini will continue to rely on rear-wheel drive, but without placing too much weight behind the rear axle so as not to harm handling. Instead of the longitudinal 1.3 four-cylinder, the concept mounts an electric motor at the rear with 270 hp. The R8 Gordini Concept will be one of the stars of the Paris Motor Show, in mid-October, but with no further information regarding the battery, range and acceleration capability, among other characteristics.

Nissan's new BYD Atto 1 rival revealed.

Nissan's new BYD Atto 1 rival revealed. By Chris Thompson Updated September 24 2026 - 6:12am, first published 2:00am Nissan has revealed a new light EV called the Pixo, built on the same platform as the new Renault Twingo. With a single grade confirmed but no pricing so far, the 2027 Nissan Pixo is "engineered specifically for European customers" according to the brand, and will be built at Renault's Novo Mesto manufacturing plant in Slovenia. Set to start European customer deliveries in early 2027, it's unlikely the Pixo will head down under due to its low power output and relatively limited range. With a 27.5kWh LFP battery providing power to a 60kW front-mounted electric motor, the Pixo is capable of a 259km claimed range and is limited to 50kW on DC fast charging. It should take around half an hour to charge from 15 per cent to 80 per cent, according to Nissan. 2027 Nissan Pixo In terms of specification the Pixo almost mirrors the related Renault Twingo, which also has a 60kW motor and a range only a few kilometres longer. The Pixo also features 23 'easter eggs' in the design and details, seemingly including a smiling face in the tail-lights. Nissan Pixo's compact design for the city. Nissan Global Design Lead Exterior Designer Masato Koyama said the Pixo's diminutive design plays into its intention as a city car. "Pixo proves that great things can come in small packages. "Its compact dimensions make it a natural fit for Europe's cities, but we've worked hard to maximise the space within them, creating a cabin that feels open, practical and surprisingly roomy. "I can't wait to see how our customers embrace this bold and fun new EV - that is perfectly suited to urban environments." At just 3796mm long and 1790mm wide, the Pixo is properly small, though its surprisingly spacious boot offers up 356L of space with the rear seats up, and 1221L with the seats folded. Its relatively short wheelbase (2492mm) and minimal overhangs allow the Pixo to achieve a 9.9m turning circle, suitable for its intended purpose as a Euro-centric city car. 2027 Nissan Pixo Clíodhna Lyons, Vice President of Product, Brand and Marketing Strategy for Nissan AMIEO said the Pixo is about "giving customers practical alternatives that help reduce the cost of every journey". "We believe the future of electric mobility isn't about building bigger vehicles with more technology, it's about building smarter vehicles that fit naturally into people's lives."
