Responsibilities
  • Provide site supervision and site-based senior leadership for a construction project.
  • Act as the point of contact for customers, vendors, and subcontractors on site.
  • Maintain safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Understand the contract scope of work and identify field-initiated scope changes and change orders.
  • Provide jobsite safety leadership and foster a safety culture within the crew.
  • Provide jobsite quality leadership and eliminate go-backs, rejected work, and sloppy work.
  • Enhance field productivity and perform projects under budget and on time.
  • Balance customer satisfaction with project profitability while protecting the company regarding scope changes and barrier time.
  • Provide craft knowledge and experience to the crew, including expertise in welding, structural erection, tank repair, new tank construction, and rigging.
  • Evaluate field employees, identify promotion candidates, provide guidance and training, and communicate evaluation information to Construction Managers and Human Resources.
  • Assist Construction Managers and Human Resources in recruiting field workers.
  • Maintain tooling and equipment and call off rented equipment when it is no longer needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve company practices and resources.
  • Represent the company professionally to customers and employees.
  • Contribute to pre-construction planning.
  • Communicate with Design, Purchasing, Project Management, and administrative support staff.
  • Understand estimated manhours and project scope before job start and work with the Project Manager to track weekly progress through Field Labor Reports.
  • Coordinate with the Safety Specialist, Construction Administration, and Human Resources to ensure employees receive required training and certifications, including safety training, Department of Transportation requirements, operator qualifications, welder testing, and site-specific requirements.
  • Complete daily timesheets, safety and quality audits, customer-required paperwork, equipment inspections, and other required documentation.
  • Advise Project Management of potential problems, work interferences, and schedule difficulties and assist with resolution.
  • Provide complete final project paperwork to the Design Group for creation of the Final Quality Control Book.
