Responsibilities
  • Direct a program or research office.
  • Conduct research in the area of expertise.
  • Collaborate with other researchers on long-range plans for research projects.
  • Oversee the development of research projects and ensure they progress according to plan.
  • Investigate, modify, and apply new procedures, techniques, or technological applications.
  • Establish goals, operating procedures, practices, and guidelines.
  • Establish, monitor, and control project budgets.
  • Participate as a skilled individual contributor and/or lead researcher as an expert in a specialized area, in collaboration with senior research faculty and personnel.
  • Prepare grant and funding applications.
  • Manage financial, personnel, planning, compliance, and other administrative aspects of research projects.
  • Oversee activities related to data collection and analysis.
  • Coordinate studies from screening through completion, including recruitment and screening of study subjects, obtaining informed consent, collecting research data, and ensuring protocol adherence.
  • Protect patient and data confidentiality by ensuring the security of research data and personal health information.
  • Ensure research activities comply with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
  • Prepare timely IRB submissions and facilitate study initiation; apply for IRB review as appropriate.
  • Understand federal research regulations and the roles of federal research organizations in regulating human research participation.
  • Identify and explain the responsibilities of Principal Investigators, research team members, sponsors, contract research organizations, and regulatory authorities in clinical trials.
  • Write articles, reports, and manuscripts and present research findings at meetings or conferences.
  • Advise on development of a formalized training program for new and existing staff and affiliates or partners; monitor federal regulatory agency training requirements and ensure training activities comply.
  • Manage Principal Investigators and other senior research faculty and personnel while participating as an expert individual contributor and/or lead researcher; ensure projects progress by overseeing daily clinical trial coordination.
  • Manage a team of professional staff responsible for clinical research, including collection, documentation, and analysis of trial data and reporting of research data.
  • Manage strategic, administrative, operational, and financial decisions affecting clinical research across the University.
  • Perform other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Experience monitoring and auditing clinical research trials for compliance and billing accuracy, including site monitoring, quality assurance, and creating monitoring plans.
  • Experience managing research projects.
  • Experience in a leadership role.
  • Research certification, such as Graham School Clinical Trials Management and Regulatory Compliance, SoCRA, or ACRP.
