Requirements
  • Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school.
  • At least two years of teaching experience within the specific discipline.
  • Current certification from a nationally recognized certifying agency.
  • Ability to create and implement post-secondary lesson plans and fitness assessments.
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate students during the experiential portion of the class.
  • Functional knowledge of safe and effective fitness and exercise protocols and human anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of the assigned program and ability to integrate teaching practices for different learning styles.
  • Comfort with basic computing skills and willingness to learn new applications.
  • Ability to physically teach the required discipline.
  • Written and oral communication, problem-solving, critical-thinking, and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to understand the needs of a community college population.
  • Ability to manage a classroom, organize materials, present content, design meaningful activities, and monitor student behavior and performance.
  • Ability to evaluate student work fairly using appropriate discipline standards.
Responsibilities
  • Teach 1 to 12 credit hours of group exercise instruction in collaboration with the Health and Physical Education Programs on the Toledo or Findlay campus per semester.
  • Design and implement collegiate-level lesson plans and assessments to provide students with an introduction to appropriate wellness methods.
  • Develop lessons, assignment calendars, and experiential activities within course objectives using assigned syllabi templates.
  • Prepare lesson plans using multimodal applications.
  • Follow program guidelines for best practices.
  • Meet classes on all scheduled dates and times during the semester at the assigned location.
  • Use appropriate technology and classroom-management techniques to support student learning.
  • Create engaging assignments and class lectures appropriate to the class and participants.
  • Assign grades, return work within one week, and communicate with students regarding progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and grades.
  • Report grades and attendance by the college-published deadline.
  • Administer course evaluations, report final grades, and submit electronic grade books to the Program Chair at the end of the term.
  • Use the college course-management system and approved applications to create and submit syllabi, grade books, attendance records, and support materials.
  • Access the Owens email account at least every other day and check the campus mailbox weekly.
  • Respond to student inquiries outside class during listed office hours.
  • Attend program and college workshops, training sessions, and development activities as needed.
  • Participate in student-learning assessment activities as assigned.
  • Perform other departmental duties as assigned.
