About the company

Nomos provides an AI-native energy API that lets hardware manufacturers and installers of solar, batteries, heat pumps, and EV chargers offer their own branded electricity plans. It acts as the regulated German supplier behind the scenes, handling procurement, metering, billing, and compliance through the API. Partners connect to the API to enable dynamic tariffs, solar export, and battery flexibility trading under a white-label brand. By supplying the backend and regulatory infrastructure, Nomos aims to scale across Germany and Europe with a large network of partner-branded energy plans.

What believers are saying

  • Index Ventures led Nomos's €20 million round on 2026-09-15.
  • Thermondo, Energiekonzepte Deutschland, and IKEA Germany already route products through Nomos.
  • Battery and EV flexibility trading are next, expanding revenue beyond electricity tariffs.

What critics are saying

  • German retail power compliance exposes Nomos to balancing errors, metering failures, and penalties.
  • Partner concentration is dangerous; losing Thermondo or IKEA Germany would shrink distribution overnight.
  • A supplier default or imbalance spike can trigger BNetzA scrutiny and license loss.

What makes Nomos unique

  • Nomos holds a German electricity supplier license and balancing responsibility, not just software.
  • It embeds white-label power plans inside partners’ brands while handling procurement, billing, and metering.
  • Nomos already powers dynamic tariffs, solar export, and thousands of households daily.

Tesonet invests in Nomos Energy to connect home solar, batteries and EVs to Europe's electricity markets

Nomos Energy, a Berlin-based startup, has secured investment from Tesonet to build infrastructure connecting home energy assets to Europe's electricity markets. The company enables hardware and consumer brands to launch energy products without building a utility from scratch. Nomos's platform already powers dynamic electricity products for major brands, including IKEA Germany's first dynamic tariff. The system helps households optimise electricity usage by buying when prices are low, storing energy, and selling back to the grid when more valuable. With a team of eight, Nomos is automating complex aspects of the energy system to prepare for increased adoption of solar panels, batteries, and electric vehicles. The company aims to become the infrastructure layer connecting homes, energy hardware, brands, and markets across Europe's increasingly distributed energy network.

Index Ventures leads $22.6M into Berlin's Nomos to power Europe's invisible utility layer

Berlin-based Nomos raised €20 million in a Series A round led by Index Ventures, with participation from Bolt CEO Markus Villig and UiPath founder Daniel Dines. The company, founded in 2023 by Stefan Gerbes and Nils Bitzer, enables heat pump and solar installers to become licensed electricity retailers under their own brands. Nomos connects home batteries, electric vehicles, and heat pumps to Germany's wholesale electricity market, handling procurement, metering, and billing behind the scenes. Partners include thermondo, Energiekonzepte Deutschland, and IKEA's Svea Solar-powered service. The funding, which brings total capital to approximately €22 million including a €1.9 million pre-seed round from Speedinvest, will support product development and European expansion. The company aims to address Europe's high energy costs, which are double those in the US and China.
