Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • On August 24, 2026, EXIM raised potential Santa Cruz debt support to $1.1 billion.
  • Management kept the updated Santa Cruz PFS on track for September 2026 completion.
  • Ivanhoe Electric added Michelle Lammers and Daniel Worthy on September 1, 2026.

What critics are saying

  • EXIM’s $1.1 billion letter is nonbinding; final approval waits until spring 2027.
  • Ivanhoe Electric lost $24.7 million in Q2 2026, keeping equity dilution pressure alive.
  • Santa Cruz still needs financing, permits, and execution; a failed PFS kills the project.

What makes IE unique

  • Robert Friedland’s team is building Santa Cruz, a rare U.S. copper mine, in Arizona.
  • Ivanhoe Electric combines domestic copper development with EXIM-backed financing and Robbins tunnel access.
  • The company targets critical-minerals supply chains, not software, with hard-asset scarcity and permitting moat.
