TrellisWare launches TW-145 digital radio head for simplified tactical vehicle networking

TrellisWare Technologies has launched the TW-145 Digital Radio Head, a vehicular radio system designed to simplify integration of Mobile Ad Hoc Networking communications on tactical vehicle platforms. The all-in-one solution features a patent-pending architecture that installs on external antenna mounts, reducing installation complexity through a single power-and-data cable. The TW-145's IP-based architecture enables integration with vehicular intercom systems, command-and-control applications and beyond-line-of-sight communications systems. It operates across VHF and UHF frequencies, offering long-range communications with advanced anti-jam capabilities and supporting TrellisWare's TSM and Katana waveforms. The company has begun initial deliveries to a major European defence customer. Vice President Haidong Wang said the system addresses high integration costs that often exceed radio costs themselves, providing a more cost-effective approach to vehicle modernisation.

TrellisWare Technologies introduces TW-145 Digital Radio Head optimized for vehicular networking. June 15, 2026, 05:00 GMT The TW-145 is a rapidly deployable vehicular radio designed to simplify integration and deliver resilient networking across tactical vehicle platforms By reducing installation complexity and supporting rapid in-field integration, the TW-145 provides a more flexible and cost-effective approach to accelerating vehicle modernization."" - Haidong Wang, Vice President of Products and Technologies SAN DIEGO, CA, UNITED STATES, June 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ - TrellisWare Technologies, Inc., the global leader in resilient tactical networking, today announced the launch of the TW-145 Digital Radio Head, an all-in-one vehicular radio system and the first purpose-built solution optimized to extend Mobile Ad Hoc Networking (MANET) communications to tactical vehicle platforms through a simplified and rapidly deployable communications architecture. The TW-145 features an innovative, patent-pending architecture that reduces the complexity traditionally associated with integrating vehicular communications systems. Designed to be installed on the external antenna mount, the digital radio head maximizes crew space, improves RF performance, simplifies installation through a single power-and-data cable, reducing dependence on specialized integration engineers, and also supports seamless vehicle-to-vehicle transfers as mission requirements evolve. At its core, the TW-145's IP-based architecture enables flexible integration with existing vehicular intercom systems, command-and-control (C2) applications, user devices, and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) communications systems, providing a scalable foundation for interoperability across mission systems. "One of the biggest cost and schedule drivers of vehicular modernization is vehicle/radio integration, often costing more than the radios themselves. The innovative all-in-one digital radio head architecture of the TW-145 was developed to help modernize tactical vehicle communications with a capability that is not only resilient and interoperable, but also significantly easier to deploy across platforms," said Haidong Wang, vice president of products and technologies at TrellisWare. "By reducing installation complexity and supporting rapid in-field integration, the TW-145 provides a more flexible and cost-effective approach to accelerating vehicle modernization that is urgently needed in today's global security environments." The TW-145 is already supporting international modernization efforts, with initial deliveries underway to a major European defense customer. These initial shipments represent a key milestone in expanding TrellisWare's resilient MANET capabilities across allied tactical vehicle platforms. Delivering resilient MANET across VHF and UHF frequencies, the TW-145 provides long-range communications with EW-resilient performance, including advanced anti-jam (A/J) capabilities. Interoperability is extended through support for TrellisWare's TSM(R) and Katana(TM) waveforms, enabling seamless integration with traditional handheld and manpack radios. Together, these capabilities strengthen TrellisWare's interoperable MANET ecosystem, enabling resilient connectivity across a broad range of tactical communications systems and environments. Record-Setting 80-mile terrestrial mobile Troposcatter Communications link demonstrated by TrellisWare and TSC.

Record-Setting 80-mile terrestrial mobile Troposcatter Communications link demonstrated by TrellisWare and TSC. A live demonstration was conducted before members of NATO's BLOS Comms Capabilities Team, with representatives from multiple allied nations in attendance. San Diego, CA, March 24, 2026 - TrellisWare Technologies, Inc., the global leader in resilient waveforms and interoperable tactical radios, today announced that the company, through its partnership with TSC, a high-technology company providing its customers with sensors, effectors, and solutions for communication, precision engagement, surveillance, and intelligence missions, has successfully demonstrated mobile, terrestrial troposcatter communications at an industry-best link distance exceeding 80 miles, transmitting real-time voice, Position Location Information (PLI) and video across mountainous terrain in San Diego, California. "The success we demonstrated, definitively proves that mobile troposcatter can provide reliable, high-capacity communications across significant terrain obstacles if you're working with the right provider," said Marcus Tooker, Director of Commercial Products for TSC. "Our ability to sustain voice, video, and PLI connectivity over an 83-mile link, while in motion, underscores the operational flexibility, resilience, and the now proven nature of the joint capabilities between TrellisWare and TSC. And this can be done anywhere in the world." The demonstration, which utilized the TSC Mobile Tracking System 3.0 (MTS3.0), originated from TrellisWare's headquarters in San Diego, California, and established a beyond-line-of-sight connection to a mobile vehicle 83 miles away in Westmorland, CA, over the broad Laguna Mountain range (altitude exceeding 5,200 feet); proving the value of TrellisWare's advanced signal processing for troposcatter communications. Assuming the same transmit power and antenna gain, TrellisWare's Advanced Constant Envelope-Troposcatter (ACE-T) waveform has a more than 1.5x link-distance advantage over other troposcatter waveforms. The troposcatter link was also used to connect TrellisWare's industry-best TSM(TM) MANET (Mobile Ad-hoc Network) on either side via a Multi-Network Bridge (MNB). This sets a record for an on-the-move troposcatter link in a terrestrial environment, which has substantially more challenging troposcatter propagation conditions than a maritime or littoral environment. "Unlike traditional, fixed-site troposcatter systems, the solution we demonstrated with TSC was able to maintain connectivity even while the mobile unit traveled at speeds up to 30 miles per hour, despite the very narrow beamwidths of the high-gain antennas required to combat the large losses of a troposcatter link," said Scott Enserink, Lead Engineer for Troposcatter Communications at TrellisWare. Key Demonstration Highlights Include: * On-the-move operation at speeds up to 30 mph. * Live voice and video transmission. * Bridging of two remote TSM MANET networks. * Mountainous terrain obstruction. * Real-time mapping and PLI updates on ATAK tablet. * International defense and industry audience for portions of the testing. "The fact that the system successfully delivered voice and video traffic and bridged two MANETs across the 83-mile path clearly demonstrates the operational viability of troposcatter for BLOS communications for expeditionary and maneuvering forces," added COL (Ret.) Garth Winterle, the former US Army Project Manager for the Integrated Tactical Network and current Director of European Business Development for TrellisWare. The event confirms that there is now a functional and proven solution for the increasing demand for resilient, beyond-line-of-sight communications capable of operating in contested, congested, satcom-denied, and infrastructure-limited environments.
