About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Clearance if required.
  • A minimum of five years of cost accounting experience in a government contracting environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint, including indirect cost pool reconciliation and organization/department structure.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting an Incurred Cost Submission (ICE model), such as building schedules or performing reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of FAR Part 31 cost principles and applicable Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), particularly as they apply to allowable/unallowable cost determination and consistent cost pool treatment.
  • Experience calculating and reconciling indirect rates (fringe, overhead, G&A) against actual cost pools and provisional/billing rates.
  • Strong analytical and data-validation skills, with the judgment to identify data integrity issues such as miscoded, misallocated, or incomplete cost data and escalate them before they affect rates or submissions.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; comfortable building and reviewing reconciliations and rate schedules from large data sets.
  • High attention to detail, good judgment about what to escalate versus resolve independently, and comfort working directly with and reporting to the Controller.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Controller and Director of FP&A in maintaining and reconciling the company's indirect cost pools (fringe, overhead, G&A) in Costpoint, ensuring pool cost accounts are mapped to the correct account/organization combinations at the lowest level where costs are posted.
  • Perform monthly and year-end calculations and reconciliations of actual indirect rates against provisional/billing rates, research variances, and bring findings to the Controller or Director of FP&A for review and resolution.
  • Provide supporting analysis and data for provisional billing rate development and annual rate budgets set by the CFO with support from the Accounting Team.
  • Help confirm that each pool's allocation base (such as direct labor dollars, total cost input, or modified total direct costs) is applied consistently, and flag inconsistencies for leadership or third-party review.
  • Maintain the Costpoint organization/department structure, including home organizations, cost centers, and organizational hierarchy, under the direction of the Controller or Director of FP&A so costs post to the correct pool and cost objective from the point of entry.
  • Assist in evaluating the downstream cost-pool and rate impact of proposed organizational or account-structure changes, and raise findings to the Controller or Director of FP&A before changes are implemented.
  • Maintain documentation of the current organization/department structure and its relationship to the indirect rate structure for leadership reference.
  • Apply FAR Part 31 cost principles for allowability, reasonableness, and allocability to flag and document proposed cost treatment for review and final determination by the Accounting Team.
  • Identify and segregate expressly unallowable costs per FAR 31.205 into designated unallowable-cost accounts, and escalate ambiguous or edge-case determinations to leadership.
  • Apply Cost Accounting Standards (CAS 401, 402, 405, 406, and 418) consistently in day-to-day cost treatment, and surface inconsistencies or proposed changes in practice to the Accounting Team for review.
  • Support maintenance of written cost-accounting policies and unallowable-cost determination documentation under the direction of the Accounting Team.
  • Prepare the primary data and reconciliation support for the annual Incurred Cost Submission (ICS), including indirect-rate schedules (pools, bases, and calculated rates), reconciliation of accounting records to claimed direct costs, and contract-level cost detail and over/underbilling schedules using the DCAA ICE model.
  • Support DCAA and other audits of the incurred cost submission under the Accounting Team's direction, including gathering data for auditor requests and preparing supporting schedules.
  • Perform ongoing data-integrity reviews of labor, cost, and organizational data flowing through Costpoint, checking completeness, accuracy, and consistent coding rather than financial performance or profitability.
  • Design and run periodic data queries and checks to catch costs posted to the wrong organization, pool, or cost objective before they distort rate calculations or contract billings, and route findings to leadership for resolution.
  • Prepare journal entries related to indirect cost pools, cost allocations, and rate true-ups for review and posting approval.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities within the Accounting Team.
  • Assist interdepartmental personnel with rate proposals, budget rates, and ad hoc cost analysis in support of contract pricing and proposal efforts.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience supporting a DCAA incurred cost audit or accounting system review.
  • Exposure to CAS Disclosure Statement content or maintenance.
  • Prior experience in the aerospace, defense, or broader federal government contracting industry.

Detroit Defense awarded Army contract to deliver predictive sustainment capability to 1st Cavalry Division.

Detroit Defense awarded Army contract to deliver predictive sustainment capability to 1st Cavalry Division. The U.S. Army Application Laboratory (AAL), in coordination with the 1st Cavalry Division, awarded Detroit Defense a contract to deliver a predictive sustainment capability for tactical wheeled vehicles at Fort Hood, Texas. DETROIT, October 5, 2026 (Newswire.com) - The U.S. Army Application Laboratory (AAL), in coordination with the 1st Cavalry Division, awarded Detroit Defense a contract to deliver a predictive sustainment capability for tactical wheeled vehicles at Fort Hood, Texas. The award supports a joint AAL and 1st Cavalry Division initiative to modernize tactical logistics through real-time edge-based data collection predictive sustainment models, and transmission in contested environments. The initiative responds to the Army's need to enhance capabilities to capture vehicle platform data and apply it toward predictive sustainment, shifting from reactive, platform-limited support toward a predictive, distributed, and increasingly autonomous sustainment enterprise. Under the contract, Detroit Defense will lead a five-company team to equip tactical wheeled vehicles with an end-to-end predictive sustainment capability that integrates with the Army's data, network, and supply infrastructure. Initial deliveries will occur this fall, followed by refinement and Soldier-led validation during large-scale training exercises through the summer of 2027. The capability closes the loop from vehicle sensor to commander. On-vehicle hardware captures fault codes, fuel levels, and engine data at the tactical edge, where physics-informed machine learning combines it with the maintenance, fuel, and ammunition records Soldiers enter at the point of work, an approach the team calls the Soldier as a Sensor. The result is actionable sustainment status rather than raw data: which component, on which vehicle, needs attention before it fails. Detroit Defense's FleetOps AI and LPPM applications aggregate that data at echelon, giving commanders continuous visibility into fleet readiness. The architecture is built for denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited-bandwidth (DDIL) environments, so it keeps working when the network does not. The effort builds on the ATO-approved Data Integration for Ground Systems (DIGS) and Digital Logbook (DLB) programs, developed by Detroit Defense in partnership with the Army, and extends them with AI-powered digital PMCS, motor pool, and echelon decision-support applications. "The Army has been clear that tactical logistics is a readiness risk in a contested environment, and this award puts a working answer in Soldiers' hands," said Nathan Clark, Vice President of Digital Logistics. "Operator-performed digital maintenance is the heart of it: every record a Soldier completes at the point of work teaches the predictive models something a sensor cannot. That is the Soldier as a Sensor, and it is the difference between fleet-average estimates and knowing which vehicle needs attention next week. We're proud to support the 1st Cavalry Division and the Army Applications Laboratory." Detroit Defense serves as prime contractor and lead systems integrator, teamed with Parker Hannifin (on-vehicle data collection), PredictiveIQ (Physics AI), Persistent Systems, LLC (utilizing the Wave Relay(R) Mobile Ad Hoc Network), and Getac (rugged edge computing). About Detroit Defense At Detroit Defense, we ensure success for the DoW and its allies with innovative systems, technical services, and integrated logistics for any military system. From fielding advanced safety systems to synchronizing digital logistics across domains, we excel at turning complex challenges into operational advantages. Our mission-focused approach enhances readiness, extends platform effectiveness, and delivers decision dominance. As an OEM-agnostic solution provider, we can bring cutting-edge capability to legacy systems, enabling seamless integration of next-gen capabilities across forces. With Detroit Defense, succeed with the capabilities that the mission demands. Detroit Defense. Behind the Mission. Beyond the Challenge.
