Requirements
  • Ability to remove electrical cables, floor tiles, and asbestos-containing material using hand, electric, and/or pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to break and remove concrete floors using hand, electric, and/or pneumatic tools.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to safety requirements in a scrap-yard environment, including use of proper personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to walk more than 1,000 yards, stand for extended periods, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb stairs and/or ladders, and perform stooping, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, pulling, twisting, kneeling, squatting, seeing, speaking, and hearing.
  • Ability to work aboard a marine vessel or in a dismantling yard, outdoors in all kinds of weather or in buildings without heating or air conditioning.
  • Ability to work around hazards including heat, rain, fire, burns, falls, noise, heights, air particles, inhalation, falling objects, and splashes.
Responsibilities
  • Remove asbestos-containing material from a marine vessel in accordance with supervisor specifications and all applicable federal and state regulations, including NESHAP and Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements.
  • Wet down removed asbestos material, double-bag it, and properly label each bag.
  • Prepare and close 30- and 40-cubic-yard containers for proper disposal of asbestos material.
  • Prepare marine-vessel areas for abatement and set up containment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
