Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering (Optical or related field), or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least seven years of experience in test engineering, preferably in photonics and optics.
  • Prior experience integrating test-station hardware and developing automation software using Python and LabVIEW.
  • Prior experience with aligner stations such as Ficontec.
  • Experience with manufacturing execution system software and integration into testing processes using application programming interfaces.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation using statistical techniques and software tools such as JMP.
  • Strong understanding of optical and photonics manufacturing processes and equipment, including debugging laser and photonics tests.
  • Proficiency in developing and documenting test plans and procedures for optical and photonics components and systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop robust test cases and analysis routines to screen optical modules and associated assemblies on the manufacturing line.
  • Develop and optimize alignment algorithms for aligning lenses and other optical components in optical modules.
  • Develop manufacturing execution system integration for all stations on the manufacturing line by coordinating with engineering teams to determine station data for storage and with equipment vendors to automate stations and integrate them with the system.
  • Analyze and interpret data to identify trends, patterns, and potential areas for improvement in manufacturing yield and product quality, including OCAP.
  • Collaborate with the team and contract manufacturer to install test stations, perform Gage R&R analysis, establish test procedures, and carry out tester calibration and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams to troubleshoot issues and improve product performance.
  • Participate in developing and implementing test automation strategies to improve efficiency and reduce testing time.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure required test equipment and software are available and functional.
  • Monitor line quality and key performance indicators, and present reports to operations and management teams.
  • Debug test failures and implement corrective actions when deviations occur.
  • Drive test-time reduction efforts and implement improved procedures, process controls, and disposition flows.
  • Prepare test roadmaps and capacity plans for product ramp and next-generation new product introduction.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in photonics and optics test engineering is preferred.

About the Company

Aeva

4D LiDAR sensors with velocity detection

Aeva designs and sells perception sensors, focusing on 4D LiDAR that measures both the velocity and 3D position of objects. The sensors are built by integrating all core LiDAR components onto a silicon photonics chip, creating a compact, efficient module. This technology is applied across automated driving, industrial robotics, consumer electronics, consumer health, and security to improve safety, efficiency, and functionality of autonomous systems. Unlike many competitors that offer traditional 3D sensing, Aeva’s 4D capability provides richer environmental data that helps autonomous systems detect motion and position at once. The company’s business model centers on developing, producing, and selling these sensors to businesses, potentially partnering with other firms to integrate the tech into a wider range of products. Aeva’s goal is to advance autonomous capabilities by delivering practical, scalable sensing solutions that enhance perception and safety across multiple industries.
