Requirements
  • Poll Managers must be at least 18 years old and registered to vote in South Carolina.
  • Poll Manager Assistants may be 16 or 17 years old.
  • Clerks must be registered voters in the county where they serve or an adjoining county.
  • Poll Managers may not be candidates or close family members of candidates appearing on the ballot at their polling place.
  • All poll workers must attend mandatory training sessions for each election cycle.
  • Must have transportation to and from the assigned polling place within a reasonable distance of home.
  • Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, team-lift voting machines weighing approximately 25 pounds, and perform normal vision and manual or physical dexterity tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in setting up the polling place before each election.
  • Help conduct the election at the assigned precinct from 6 AM until all closing procedures are completed.
  • Qualify voter registrations, activate voting machines, provide voting instructions, and maintain orderly flow at the polling place.
  • Follow state-law policies and procedures.
  • Assign roles, arrange the polling place, and monitor traffic flow.
  • Complete paperwork and opening and closing checklists.
  • Ensure voting equipment is returned.
  • Provide a positive voter experience while following required procedures.
