About the job

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of software development experience.
  • A strong command of at least one of Java, Python, JavaScript, or Go.
  • Experience in backend development, Unix/Linux environments, distributed or parallel systems, information retrieval, networking, or systems/security software development.
  • Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and containerd.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or CodeDeploy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Experience in release engineering, build and deployment pipelines, or environment/release management, ideally in a shared, multi-team environment.
  • Ability to coordinate across teams that do not report to the role, run incident calls, and write unambiguous promotion and rollback criteria.
  • Comfort making decisions under pressure, including choosing between fixing forward and rolling back, and owning the outcome.
  • Experience with CI/CD concepts, build promotion gates, and rollback or fix-forward processes.
  • Ability to work independently across ambiguous, cross-team problems without an established playbook.
  • Proficiency in Python and Bash/Shell scripting.
  • Strong Git workflow expertise, including branching, pull requests, and merge strategies.
  • Hands-on Jenkins or equivalent CI/CD pipeline experience.
  • Unix/Linux systems experience and debugging skills.
Responsibilities
  • Estimate, plan, and implement applications in Java, Python, or Go.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather requirements for building new modules or improving existing modules.
  • Evaluate, maintain, and improve the existing code base to ensure it is properly structured and uses software engineering best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, identify, and research reported issues, and recommend solutions by comparing their advantages and disadvantages.
  • Stay current with new technologies and tools and adopt relevant ones for the team.
  • Participate in peer reviews and apply software engineering best practices.
  • Meet assigned project objectives and timelines.
  • Own the build promotion cadence across distributed capability teams and moderate handoffs to prevent promotion conflicts.
  • Resolve multi-project conflicts involving code versions or configurations in major releases by deciding and communicating resolutions such as time slots, feature-flag isolation, or sequencing.
  • Own the environment during major blockers or outages, drive alignment across teams, and make the final decision on fixing forward versus rolling back.
  • Collaborate with development teams to define and maintain accountability mapping for every critical R9 service, including owner, backup owner, escalation path, and contact point.
  • Work with E2E and SRE to define and enforce build-promotion criteria, validation requirements, and exception handling for changes entering R9.
  • Support rollout of safe deployment practices, including canary or blue-green deployments, as they are piloted and expanded across R9 services.
  • Track and report major release-health KPIs, including deployment failure rate, mean time to identify, mean time to fix, and P1 SLA compliance, and surface trends to engineering and leadership.
  • Partner with capability teams to close configuration, dependency, and feature-flag gaps that cause recurring instability.
  • Monitor smoke tests and perform initial bug triage using existing tools, involving the appropriate development partners to resolve bugs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Containerization with Docker and basic Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Splunk, and with canary or blue-green deployment strategies.
  • Experience with incident-management processes, including triage, severity levels, and escalation paths.
  • Background working with or alongside SRE teams on monitoring, alerting, or health checks.
  • Exposure to advertising or ad-delivery systems.
