Requirements
  • A High School Diploma, GED diploma, or equivalent is required.
  • Two years of nursing assistant, patient care technician, or healthcare experience is required; completion of advanced skills and knowledge training within six months of hire may be accepted in lieu of this experience.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Certified Patient Care Technician certification from National Performance Specialists is required.
  • Completion of an Advanced Clinical Course is required.
  • Handle with Care certification is required.
  • Dysrhythmia course certification is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced designated direct and indirect patient-care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed clinical team members.
  • Recognize and address patients' physiological, emotional, and social needs while respecting their preferences, priorities, cultural beliefs, and values.
  • Communicate with and support the interprofessional team, patients, families, and designated care partners.
  • Perform designated direct and indirect patient-care activities to meet patient needs.
  • Promote and maintain a safe patient-care environment.
  • Act as a virtual safety associate when needed based on campus needs.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment to support efficient unit operations.
  • Train new staff on the use of supplies and equipment.
  • Recognize and monitor individual patient electrocardiograms.
  • Recognize and report hemodynamic instability and critical changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain intravenous insertion competency, including ultrasound-guided intravenous insertion.
  • Perform phlebotomy and laboratory specimen collection, including type and screen and blood cultures.
  • Use advanced medical equipment for splinting, advanced rehabilitation therapy, trauma care, intra-aortic balloon pump, rapid infuser, central line, and arterial-line setups.
  • Work with the professional development team to create training modules based on vendor information, use guidelines, and best practices.
  • Coach and train team members on advanced equipment and procedures.
  • Act as a transfer and positioning coach and trainer for specific patient populations in the acute rehabilitation setting.
  • Perform bladder scanning and intermittent catheterization.
  • Manage aggressive behavior and use de-escalation techniques.
  • Coach and train team members in de-escalation techniques according to formal training guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
