More people are looking to get the most out of their nightly slumber, turning to high-tech mattresses and bedding to track their sleep data and achieve a perfect night's rest. Now, the brand that once described itself as a "sleep fitness" company has partnered with the "immortal uncle" to offer a way to see how fast you're aging while catching some Z's. Eight Sleep, maker of the buzzy Pod bed cooling system, has just added a biological age feature to help users better understand not just how well they're sleeping - but also how well they're aging. The company developed the latest tech with biohacker and longevity mogul Bryan Johnson, a longtime advocate of prioritizing sleep who has used the Pod for years. "Bryan has spent years focused on measuring the factors that influence the pace of aging," Matteo Franceschetti, co-founder and CEO at Eight Sleep, told The Post. "That perspective helped shape how we think about making longevity data more accessible and useful in everyday life." The Eight Sleep Pod system consists of cooling pillow covers, a mattress cover to track biometric data, a hydro-powered blanket that connects to the cover and a hub, which powers the system. Using sensors built directly into the Pod mattress cover, the new feature measures several biological signs of aging - including heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, sleep stages, and sleep duration - and can account for individual metrics of two people in the same bed at the same time. Users also have the option of connecting a wearable fitness tracker, like an Apple Watch, to add data from their daytime activities and medical records for a more comprehensive picture. Unlike chronological age - the time that's passed since a person's birth - biological age measures the functional condition of a person's cells, tissues and organs. Several factors play a role in how well someone ages biologically, including genetics, weight, environmental exposures and lifestyle habits, such as diet, exercise and, of course, sleep. "Because it is part of the bed, the experience is effortless," Franceschetti explained. "You simply sleep in comfort while the Pod builds a continuous picture of how your body is functioning night after night." To ensure the cover's sensors provided the most accurate results, measurements were validated against clinical gold standards. For instance, sleeping heart rate was 99% accurate compared with an ECG, while respiratory rate was 98% accurate compared with respiratory inductance plethysmography, a tool used to measure lung volume and breathing patterns. "For Biological Age specifically, we trained a new health foundation model using data from more than 100,000 participants and 2.7 million hours of biometric data collected during sleep," Franceschetti explained. "That accuracy is the foundation for Biological Age." Along with biological age, the system also focuses on speed of aging, or the estimated pace at which the body is aging relative to calendar time. While Biological Age and the Pod aren't meant to replace clinical care, consistency is key to fully understanding how someone's health is "changing over time relative to their own baseline, while also comparing those patterns with people of similar age and gender," according to Franceschetti. "I think Eight Sleep customers will love the Biological Age because it can help them build intuition around how their lifestyle choices affect their health," Johnson said in a press release from Eight Sleep. The most current Pod system runs for $2,999 with a five-year warranty. Eight Sleep offers a 30-night risk-free trial, as well as free shipping and free returns.
Eight Sleep, maker of a $2,999 smart mattress cover, is pursuing FDA clearance to detect and treat sleep apnea. Cumulative Pod sales exceed $500 million, according to Franceschetti. The company is also conducting trials in Abu Dhabi testing whether the Pod can automatically reposition sleep apnea patients.

The partnership will begin with a first-of-its-kind clinical study in Abu Dhabi that connects real-world data from Eight Sleep's technology with Abu Dhabi's population health data. The initial study will focus on sleep apnoea, one of the most widespread and underdiagnosed sleep-related conditions globally. It will examine how smart bed technology, including real-time adjustments to body position, may help improve how the condition is managed. During the 12-week study, Eight Sleep's technology will capture continuous sleep and physiological signals such as heart rate, breathing rate, movement, snoring, and positional data. Uniquely, this information will be connected into Abu Dhabi's intelligent health system, allowing researchers to analyse these signals alongside participants real-time health data, including relevant clinical, genomic and lifestyle data, to identify patterns that may help to inform future treatment pathways and clinical research. The study will be conducted by Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, an Abu Dhabi medical research hospital, and will operate with built-in oversight, governance, and data protection protocols. The research will also help evaluate how continuous sleep monitoring can complement existing clinical assessments and support future healthcare planning across the emirate. While the initial study focuses on sleep apnoea, DoH and Eight Sleep plan to study how sleep, temperature regulation, and recovery effect other areas of health, such as menopause and cancer care. The findings are expected to help show how everyday consumer health devices can be used safely and responsibly within clinical care and prevention. The collaboration reinforces Abu Dhabi's continued investment in clinical research, health intelligence and responsible adoption of emerging technologies. Tether has led a $50 million investment round in Eight Sleep, an AI sleep tracking startup, valuing the company at $1.5 billion. The funding follows a $100 million round raised by Eight Sleep in August 2025. Eight Sleep develops AI-powered sleep health technology, including the Eight Sleep Pod, which monitors biometric data such as heart rate, breathing and sleep stages. The system automatically adjusts bed temperature, elevation and sound settings based on real-time sleep patterns. The partnership will integrate Tether's QVAC architecture, which processes health data locally on devices rather than external servers. Eight Sleep is developing a predictive AI sleep agent trained on over one billion hours of sleep data and pursuing FDA filings for sleep apnoea detection. One minute you're freezing, the next you're waking up to night sweats. Most likely, your sleep environment hasn't changed, but your body has. Eight Sleep, the company behind the Pod smart mattress cover and sleep tracker, just launched Pregnancy Mode, an AI-powered system built for the physiological changes brought on from pregnancy and postpartum. It's available now as a free app update for all Eight Sleep members with a paid Standard, Enhanced or Elite subscription ($17 to $33 per month). When you activate Pregnancy Mode within the app, the system uses your pre-pregnancy temperature baseline, your last menstrual period date and your estimated due date to automatically calculate weekly temperature adjustments across all sleep stages. Eight Sleep's dataset of over 100 pregnant members and 50,000 nights of sleep data found that in the early stages of pregnancy, your body tends to sleep warmer (about 0.4 to 0.7 degrees Fahrenheit) than your pre-pregnancy baseline temperature. The study also found that by the third trimester, it's the complete opposite - pregnant people were setting their Pods nearly 3.5 degrees cooler than normal. Pregnancy Mode also tracks that curve and continues to adjust eight weeks postpartum. The feature includes a dedicated Pregnancy Insights card in the app, where you can see weekly biometric summaries of your heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, sleep stages and snoring. It'll also compare these metrics to your pre-pregnancy scores. Baby development milestones and prenatal visit reminders are part of this new feature, too. Partners sharing the bed will get their own weekly insights on what to expect and how to help their pregnant significant other.
