Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, with demonstrated interest in sustainability, building energy efficiency, building science, renewables, or related subjects.
  • At least 8 years of related energy industry experience or academic equivalent, including experience in energy consulting, energy management, building science, demand-side management program potential studies, regulatory support, demand-side management program design, or program implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience with project and resource management.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to identify, collect, and analyze data.
  • Strong writing and communication skills for clearly expressing ideas and effectively providing information to stakeholders.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
  • Lead energy efficiency, electrification, distributed energy resources, and decarbonization potential studies, program planning, advisory research and support, preparation of filings, and other regulatory support for United States and Canadian utilities and/or government agencies.
  • Assist with developing solutions to inform dispatch strategies and co-optimization of distributed energy resources using value-based dispatch strategies.
  • Assist with developing market adoption curves for distributed energy resource technologies as part of achievable potential modeling using benchmarking, calibration, and Bass Diffusion curves.
  • Assist with developing and designing innovative distributed energy resource program strategies.
  • Conduct market research on energy efficiency technologies, including measure adoption, saturation, and feasibility.
  • Perform advanced energy-saving calculations and economic analyses for residential and commercial sectors supporting utility programs.
  • Oversee market research and develop industry expertise on innovative technologies.
  • Assist with business development activities, including writing proposals.
  • Assist with evaluating and benchmarking program performance.
  • Manage and analyze large datasets using advanced Excel functions.
  • Prepare and present persuasive presentations and reports.
  • Co-author reports, client deliverables, journal articles, white papers, and marketing pieces.
Desired Qualifications
  • A graduate degree in engineering, specializing in electrical engineering, building science, and/or energy policy.
  • In-depth understanding of distributed energy resource technology adoption curves, including Bass Diffusion curves, program benchmarking, and calibration.
  • In-depth understanding of energy efficiency technologies, economic valuation including net present value and internal rate of return, and utility cost-effectiveness tests.
  • Knowledge of energy policy and regulation, especially related to demand-side management and other distributed energy resources.
  • Experience and knowledge of renewables, United States and Canadian energy codes including the International Energy Conservation Code and American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers standards, energy storage systems and/or combined heat and power, energy modeling using OpenStudio and EnergyPlus, and energy-saving calculation methods.
  • Understanding of building science, building construction methods, and building energy-saving calculations.
  • Experience in regulatory and public stakeholder processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with business development and nurturing client relationships.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and leading a team of at least two direct reports.
  • Team-oriented approach.
