Copart opens new Centre in Stafford.

Copart opens new Centre in Stafford. The latest expansion news from Copart; Global leader in online vehicle remarketing and recycling, Copart UK, has announced the opening of a new Operation Centre in Stafford, further strengthening its operational network as part of its ongoing investment in capacity, resilience and service for customers. The new Stafford location represents an important strategic addition to Copart's nationwide network, increasing capacity in the West Midlands and reinforcing the company's ability to respond to growing customer demand and changing vehicle volumes. Copart Stafford will manage vehicles through every stage of the remarketing process, from collection and secure storage to preparation, online auction and onward movement. Located under 30 miles from Copart's Wolverhampton Operation Centre, Stafford will increase the company's presence in the West Midlands, strengthening their ability to collect, process and move vehicles efficiently for sellers, including major insurance companies and automotive customers. This additional capacity also strengthens the resilience of Copart's wider operational network, helping them to manage peaks in demand and respond quickly when vehicle volumes increase following severe weather or other major events. For Copart Members, Stafford will provide access to an even wider choice of vehicles through the company's online auctions, while giving buyers in the region another convenient collection location, helping to save time and reduce onward transport distances. Phil Briggs, Director of Operation Centres, Transport and SVO at Copart UK, said: "As demand for Copart's vehicle remarketing and recycling services continues to grow, we're continuing to invest strategically in our operational network to ensure we have the capacity, resilience, and geographical coverage our customers need. "Stafford is an important part of that investment, giving Insurance Edge greater capacity and flexibility across the West Midlands, and bringing the total number of Copart locations across the UK and Ireland to 34. "Expanding our network in this way not only strengthens the geographical reach and resilience of our operational capabilities, but also helps to reduce road miles, fuel use, and associated carbon emissions as part of our ongoing Copart Cares ESG strategy." The first auction at Copart Stafford is scheduled to take place on 3rd November 2026.

Copart's moat holds at a 32% margin, but growth has stalled and the stock is down 17.8%

Copart (NASDAQ: CPRT) closed at $27.32 on October 9, down 17.8% over six months, while the State Street SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust rose 15.1%. The salvage car auctioneer's slide reflects slowing growth rather than a weaker business. Revenue rose 2.40% in the latest quarter while earnings fell 17.40%. Copart's moat rests on scarce salvage land near major cities and insurer contracts that route all write-offs to one network. That gives it a 32.01% operating margin, little debt and a current ratio near eight. The long-term risk is that safer and autonomous vehicles mean fewer wrecked cars. The stock trades at 15.61 times forward earnings, which makes it look fairly valued. Hedge fund holders rose to 60 from 57, with stakes worth about $2.24 billion at the end of Q2 2026.

Fund buys Copart despite autonomous driving threat to crash rates

Alluvium Asset Management initiated a position in Copart during the second quarter of 2026, despite concerns about autonomous driving's long-term impact. The online vehicle auction platform appeared on the firm's quantitative screen showing compelling metrics: ten-year sales growth of 17.4%, profit growth of 19.1%, negligible debt, and returns on invested capital in the mid-30s. Copart operates in a duopoly, selling over 4 million vehicles annually, primarily for insurance companies disposing of total losses. Alluvium identified two key considerations for the business: declining accident rates from autonomous driving adoption versus rising total loss classifications due to increased vehicle technology and repair costs. The fund declined 1.4% in euro terms during the quarter. Copart's shares fell 15.1% in the period and lost 32.24% over the previous year.

Copart reports record total loss frequency as Q4 revenue hits $1.2B, acquires ACV for all-cash deal

Copart Inc reported Q4 2026 consolidated revenue of $1.2 billion, up 2.4% year-over-year, whilst full-year revenue reached $4.7 billion, up 0.4%. The company saw record total loss frequency and average selling prices, with Q4 global ASPs rising 3.5% and full-year ASPs up 5.5%. However, net income fell 17.4% to $327.4 million in Q4, with diluted earnings per share down 14.6% to $0.35. Full-year net income declined 4.4% to $1.48 billion. Global unit sales dropped 2.9% in Q4, driven by a 5.7% decline in the US market. Copart maintains strong liquidity of approximately $5.7 billion, comprising $4.5 billion in cash and securities plus $1.25 billion in revolving credit capacity. The company deployed $1.63 billion into share repurchases during the fiscal year. The firm expects its ACV acquisition to close by year-end and prove accretive to earnings in its first full year.
