Prime's internship program: investing in the next generation.

Prime's internship program: investing in the next generation. At Prime Electric, Prime Electric, Inc. believe investing in the next generation of construction professionals is an investment in the future of its industry. Its internship program gives students meaningful, hands-on experience while helping them discover where their interests and strengths may lead. Through rotations in project management, estimating, logistics, virtual construction services, and safety, interns gain exposure to the teams that work together to bring its projects to life. Whether they arrive with industry experience or are stepping onto a jobsite for the first time, interns are supported and mentored throughout the summer as they build their knowledge and confidence. This summer, Prime welcomed 15 interns across its Washington and California offices, giving students the opportunity to apply what they've learned in the classroom to real-world projects. Mentorship A key component of Prime's internship program is the opportunity to learn through mentorship and hands-on experience. Interns are encouraged to ask questions, take on new challenges, and work alongside experienced project teams in a supportive environment. For Kamron, an incoming Senior at Prairie View A&M University, second-year Prime intern, and incoming full-time Project Engineer, the program provided an opportunity to build confidence while taking on greater responsibility. As his responsibilities grew, Kamron was trusted with more challenging tasks, including scheduling, where his team guided him through obstacles while teaching him how to approach problems independently. That mentorship strengthened his problem-solving skills and gave him a foundation he could carry into future challenges. His experience reflects Prime's commitment to giving interns meaningful responsibility while providing the support they need to grow. Once you get here, everybody makes you feel like you're a part of the team - It's really inviting, really welcoming. Everybody's eager to show me things... Eager to help me learn too Second Year Intern & Incoming PE, Prairie View A&M Understanding the Project Lifecycle Rotations give interns exposure to different stages of a project, helping them understand how each phase contributes to successful project delivery. For Ethan, a student at Washington State University and first-year Prime intern, that meant gaining experience with project documentation, estimating, quantity takeoffs, and electrical plans. Moving through these different responsibilities gave Ethan a clearer picture of the project lifecycle and how each role contributes to the finished product, while helping him identify the areas of the industry that interested him most. Hands-On Experience Prime's internship program extends beyond observation by giving interns opportunities to contribute to active projects and collaborate with both office and field teams. This approach helps students connect what they've learned in the classroom to real-world project delivery. At Prime's California office, Henry, a student at Cal Poly and first-year Prime intern, entered the internship hoping to strengthen his understanding of project management, team coordination, and project financial tracking. Throughout the summer, Henry worked closely with project teams and field personnel, gaining firsthand insight into the responsibilities project engineers manage every day. That experience gave him a better understanding of how office and field teams work together while strengthening his ability to adapt and solve problems in a fast-paced environment. Henry also highlighted the value of learning alongside professionals with a wide range of experiences and backgrounds, noting how those interactions helped prepare him for the dynamic nature of the industry. Prime has helped me a lot with preparing me to deal with the unexpected, thinking on my feet really quickly, and becoming more adaptable in a fast-paced project management environment. First Year Intern, Cal Poly Each summer, Prime's internship program provides students with opportunities to learn, grow, and explore the many facets of project engineering. Through mentorship, rotational learning, and active project involvement, interns gain practical experience, build meaningful industry connections, and develop the skills needed to succeed in electrical construction. In an industry that is constantly evolving, preparing future professionals requires more than classroom learning alone. By working alongside experienced teams and contributing to active projects, interns leave Prime with a stronger understanding of the industry, increased confidence in their abilities, and a foundation built on experience, mentorship, and continuous learning.
