About the job

Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a Master of Science or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with at least two years of RFIC design experience.
  • Have a strong background in state-of-the-art RF complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor, silicon-on-insulator, or silicon-germanium technologies.
  • Be proficient in RFIC design and characterization tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre RF, or Advanced Design System, or similar tools.
  • Have a deep understanding of system specifications and be capable of translating system requirements into circuit requirements at the integrated-circuit level.
  • Have experience with RFIC layout and post-layout simulation.
  • Have experience with Python, MATLAB, or scripting for data analysis and automation.
  • Have prior research or tapeout experience in RF or analog integrated-circuit design.
  • Be comfortable solving problems independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills in English and be comfortable explaining technical concepts to the team.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with the design and simulation of RF and analog front-end circuit blocks such as low-noise amplifiers, mixers, oscillators, phase-locked loops, power amplifiers, variable-gain amplifiers, and switches.
  • Perform RF circuit simulations including S-parameters, noise figure, gain, linearity, stability, and power consumption.
  • Support layout reviews, parasitic extraction, and post-layout simulations.
  • Assist in the analysis of 2.5D and 3D electromagnetic circuit models and simulation outcomes.
  • Work across a cross-functional team of RF engineers.
  • Prepare technical documents and reports, and participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions.

About the company

SkyGig focuses on advancing chip design by bringing together engineers and researchers to develop new methods, tools, and architectures for making semiconductors. Its work involves collaborative research and engineering efforts to create the next generation of chips and the systems that enable their design. The company differentiates itself by emphasizing a team-driven environment where bright engineers and researchers collaborate to push chip design forward, rather than relying on a single product line. SkyGig’s goal is to shape the future of semiconductor design and engineering by building and developing innovative approaches to how chips are created and optimized.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • SkyGig won a $1 million SBIR Phase II award on August 15, 2023.
  • The company’s news page still highlights NSF-backed beamforming development updated June 8, 2026.
  • Ka-band beamforming serves NASA small spacecraft, where lower SWaP-C directly reduces mission cost.

What critics are saying

  • SkyGig still depends on grants; the latest disclosed award was the 2023 SBIR Phase II.
  • No customer contracts, revenue scale, or manufacturing partner emerged in 2025-2026 disclosures.
  • If prototype performance misses NASA and 6G requirements, commercialization stalls and funding dries up.

What makes SkyGig unique

  • SkyGig builds high-gain electronic beamforming antennas with low SWaP-C and low-profile modularity.
  • The company targets Ka-band links for satellites, lunar infrastructure, and dense wireless networks.
  • University of Michigan roots and NASA, NSF, Activate backing support technical credibility.
