Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the State of Georgia for long-term care facilities.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within three months of the hire date.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions and work cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of basic nursing procedures and simple charting.
  • Ability to meet the specified hearing, vision, manual dexterity, coordination, mobility, lifting, and repetitive-task requirements.
  • Ability to work in environments with possible exposure to hazardous substances, body fluids, or infectious organisms.
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts, including overtime as needed.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect resident care under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, personal care, comfort, and maintaining a safe and clean environment.
  • Assist with resident admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.
  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with residents, family members, and facility personnel while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Provide morning and evening care, including hygiene, oral care, back rubs, perineal care, linen changes, overbed-table cleaning, room straightening, and other general care.
  • Notify licensed personnel when a resident reports pain.
  • Assist the licensed practical nurse with treatment procedures.
  • Provide general nursing care, including positioning, lifting, turning, use of special equipment, bedpan or commode assistance, and ambulation assistance.
  • Perform patient care that promotes resident safety and reduces the likelihood of medical or healthcare errors.
  • Take and record residents' temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, blood pressure, and intake-output.
  • Make rounds with outgoing and oncoming shifts, leave the unit in good condition, and know the whereabouts of assigned residents.
  • Check for reddened areas or skin breakdown and report findings to the registered nurse or licensed practical nurse/licensed vocational nurse.
  • Ensure residents are properly dressed, clean, and dry, and store used clothing appropriately.
  • Use supplies and linen carefully and follow established charge procedures for resident charge items.
  • Update care plans, report changes to the assistant director of nursing/director of nursing, and complete daily documentation.
  • Provide reality orientation during daily care.
  • Report and, when appropriate, record changes in residents' condition or behavior and unusual incidents.
  • Distribute drinking water and other nourishment to residents.
  • Perform general care activities for residents in isolation.
  • Answer resident call lights, anticipate residents' needs, and make rounds to assigned residents.
  • Assist residents with the handling and care of clothing and personal property, including dentures, glasses, contact lenses, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices.
  • Attend staff meetings, mandatory in-services, competency evaluations, annual reviews, skills fairs, and department in-services as scheduled.
  • Maintain regulatory requirements, patient confidentiality, organizational policies, and professional conduct standards.
  • Use the computerized time-clock system correctly and wear identification while on duty.
  • Interact professionally and cooperatively with residents, guests, coworkers, and other departments.
