Requirements
  • Skill in operating company tools and equipment.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Fluency in reading, speaking, and writing English.
  • Experience as a foreman or crew supervisor in a related industry and in road construction projects.
  • Basic supervision experience.
  • A valid DZ driver's license and a good driving record to drive a company vehicle; the driver's license is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to perform work wearing personal protective equipment, including winter coats, rain gear, a hard hat, ear plugs, and safety glasses.
  • Ability to work overtime during the week and on weekends when required, backfill for the Patrol Supervisor, and be available for emergency response rotations, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Availability for emergency response as required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and control winter operations projects; prepare and summarize highway road-condition reports; and help dispatch winter maintenance equipment when required.
  • Create and maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
  • Follow and understand the supervisor's instructions and provide and communicate supervision to the crew.
  • Monitor weather and road conditions.
  • Dispatch and direct maintenance equipment, including deciding where to send snowplows, salt spreaders, and other equipment based on weather severity.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, maintenance activities, and road conditions.
  • Help create and verify accurate winter operations records.
  • Communicate with patrollers and supervisors about job status and currently assigned responsibilities.
  • Maintain and supervise a clean jobsite free of tripping hazards and unnecessary obstacles.
  • Participate in the Performance and Development Review process to ensure alignment with the performance pillars.
  • Carry out work activities in accordance with company values and client outcome targets.
  • Contribute to a diverse, inclusive, and fair work environment free from discrimination, bullying, and harassment.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Allocate equipment and personnel efficiently to areas most affected by winter weather.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Operations Manager, Project Manager, Patrol Supervisor, or Winter Patroller.
  • Comply with Canadian and provincial legal requirements.
