Nomad publishes major frozen food storage study in scientific journal.

Nomad publishes major frozen food storage study in scientific journal. Woking, England-headquartered Nomad Foods announced on September 28 that its research paper, "Increasing Storage Temperature of Frozen Foods: Effect on Sustainability and Food Quality," has been peer reviewed and published in npj Science of Food, a leading journal in the Nature portfolio. The study provides evidence that frozen foods can be safely stored at -15°C, compared with the long-established industry standard of -18°C, while maintaining product quality and reducing energy consumption by approximately 7%. The findings strengthen the scientific case for a more sustainable approach to frozen food storage and distribution. Conducted over 18 months, the research evaluated nine frozen food categories and generated more than 20,000 quality measurements. The study found that, for most products tested, storage at -15°C maintained food safety, quality, nutritional value and shelf life within accepted limits. The peer-reviewed publication adds independent scientific validation to industry efforts to reduce carbon emissions across temperature-controlled supply chains. In June of 2024, Nomad Foods became the first food manufacturer to join The Move to -15°C coalition - a global initiative dedicated to cutting carbon emissions in the frozen food supply chain. Neil Fletcher, general counsel at Nomad Foods and board member of The Move to -15°C coalition, stated: "The publication of our research in a peer-reviewed journal is an important milestone for both Nomad Foods and the frozen food industry. Our findings demonstrate that it is possible to reduce energy consumption across the cold chain while maintaining the safety and quality consumers expect from frozen food. We believe this research will help inform industry discussions and support more sustainable practices across temperature-controlled supply chains." Nomad Foods' commitment to sustainability extends beyond frozen food storage. In 2023, the company published a life cycle assessment showing that many of its most popular frozen products have an equivalent or lower carbon footprint than comparable foods preserved using alternative methods. In 2026, Nomad Foods was also named in the Dow Jones Best in Class Index Europe for the fifth consecutive year, ranking among the top performing European food companies for sustainability. UK expands Global Talent visa to 100+ commercial R&D firms.

UK expands Global Talent visa to 100+ commercial R&D firms. August 7, 2026 Commercial enterprises across the UK can now directly host and support international scientific and engineering talent following an extension to the government's Global Talent visa scheme. Announced by the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, the expansion enables more than 100 commercial research-intensive companies, including major corporate brands like AstraZeneca and Jaguar Land Rover, alongside fast-growing technology firms, to recruit leading international researchers using the endorsed funder pathway. Previously restricted primarily to higher education institutions and independent academic research bodies, the expanded pathway provides a fast-track route for commercial organisations to secure specialist skills across eight priority industrial sectors, including AI, quantum computing, life sciences, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing. Addressing the high-growth skills gap. For B2B commercial leaders scaling complex technological solutions, international talent acquisition remains a key operational bottleneck. The visa expansion directly targets high-growth sectors where domestic talent pools are highly competitive. The decision allows eligible businesses to sponsor top-tier specialists who are named on funded research grants or bringing critical technical expertise, shortening the administrative timeline for cross-border recruitment. Industry leaders react. Commercial leaders across the technology and life sciences ecosystems have welcomed the move, highlighting speed and flexibility as essential requirements for global competitiveness. Steve Brierley, CEO and Founder, Riverlane said: "Building the team to make quantum computers reliable means competing for a small pool of world-class talent across borders. The Global Talent visa gives us a fast, flexible route to bring the best people to the UK, and that speed matters when the field is moving as quickly as quantum is right now." Business associations also emphasized the role of visa flexibility in securing foreign direct investment and maintaining operational scale within the UK. Kate Barclay MBE, Skills Consultant, BioIndustry Association added: "This expansion is a vital, practical opportunity for members to help shape a more agile, responsive immigration system that reflects the realities of a fast-moving, high-growth industry." In addition to the Global Talent visa changes, the government confirmed plans to broaden the UKRI-administered Future Technology Research and Innovation (FTRI) scheme, extending temporary work placements of up to two years for international researchers working within early-stage tech ventures. Key action points for commercial leaders. Check Host Eligibility: Review the updated UKRI list of approved research organisations to confirm whether your business qualifies to host researchers under the endorsed funder route. Streamline R&D Recruitment: Integrate fast-track visa pathways into your enterprise talent acquisition strategies for critical technical and PhD-level roles. Register Corporate Interest: Non-listed research-intensive firms can submit formal expressions of interest via UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to participate in future scheme expansions.
