- Two years of registered nurse experience are required, including at least one year in acute care, critical care, emergency department, maternal-child, perioperative services, dialysis, or behavioral health.
- A current approved Alabama Board of Nursing registered nurse license or multistate license is required, or the ability to obtain one before the start date.
- Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Provider training is required.
- A minimum Associate degree is required.
- English reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension are required.
- Additional certifications may be required within six months of the start date depending on the assigned unit, including Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nursing Core Course, Neonatal Resuscitation, and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring.
- The role requires physical presence onsite and the ability to perform medium work, including lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, prolonged standing and walking, and emergency running, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Assess each assigned patient on admission and on an ongoing basis, including physical, psychological, social, spiritual, cultural, pain, nutritional, functional, developmental, age-related, and discharge planning needs.
- Plan, provide, and document patient and significant-other education after identifying barriers to learning.
- Evaluate and regularly reevaluate patient care and coordinate care planning with patients, families, providers, and other disciplines to achieve patient-centered outcomes.
- Assign and delegate nursing care to team members according to patient needs and team-member capabilities.
- Apply safety principles when performing care.
- Accurately document observations, care provided, and changes in the care plan.
- Provide accurate handoff reports and participate in unit-based huddles.
- Assist with performance-improvement activities by serving on performance-improvement teams, assisting with performance-improvement measures, and supporting and implementing necessary changes.
- Perform initial and annual competency activities for the job class.
- Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook and adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards and DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees, and identify and reduce unsafe practices, risks, and hazards.
- Use electronic mail, time-and-attendance software, learning-management software, and the intranet.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
