Requirements
  • An associate degree in early childhood education or a related field is required, or a Child Development Associate Certification plus experience deemed equivalent by the agency.
  • At least one year of experience in a classroom setting is required.
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, and time-management skills are required.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • The ability to communicate and effectively interact with a diverse population is required.
  • The candidate must meet all background checks and medical clearances required for the position.
  • The candidate must be able to sit, stand, walk, carry, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • The candidate must be able to operate desktop, laptop, and/or cell phone equipment and communicate with colleagues.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultures, ranges of ability, genders, ethnicities, and races.
  • The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the history of discrimination in America, particularly regarding race and racism, and how it has contributed to disparities experienced by marginalized communities.
  • The candidate must demonstrate the ability to deliver culturally responsive services.
Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum emphasizing learning through play in accordance with Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families requirements, BrightStars Quality Rating and Improvement System, and Rhode Island Early Learning and Development Standards.
  • Maintain an inviting, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate environment for children.
  • Provide appropriate supervision and care in the classroom.
  • Oversee Teacher Assistants, Substitutes, Interns, and Volunteers in the classroom.
  • Assist teaching staff in caring for children and respond to their physical, emotional, and cognitive needs.
  • Collaborate with the Education Coordinator to develop monthly curricula, lesson plans, standards, and activities addressing children's emotional, social, physical, and cognitive needs.
  • Plan and participate in scheduled parent conferences.
  • Submit daily notes, attendance records, meal sheets, newsletters, developmental profiles, and family goal sheets in a timely manner.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and families, provide support and resources, and report concerns to the Program Director and Clinical Supervisor.
  • Complete work in accordance with health and safety protocols and address and report potential hazards to ensure children's safety.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and/or experience in a childcare setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 is preferred.
