Requirements
  • Possession of a nursing degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 2 years of experience, preferably in a long-term care facility.
  • Working knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, infectious diseases, and aseptic technique, including standard and universal precautions.
  • Ability to read technical procedures and comprehend policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from managers and employees.
  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions.
  • Current, unencumbered, active Registered Nurse license in the state.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, coordinate, and direct the facility’s infection-control program in accordance with applicable nursing-facility rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ensure compliance with current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and local infection-control regulations and standard or universal precautions.
  • Develop, maintain, and update infection-control precautions and aseptic-technique procedures to correct problem areas.
  • Interpret infection-control policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Maintain a reference library of written infection-control materials for the day-to-day needs of isolated residents.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations for the Administrator concerning the infection-control program.
  • Assist departments in evaluating and classifying functions involving potential exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Monitor infection-control practices to ensure personnel follow standard operating procedures for tasks involving exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Conduct nursing-unit rounds for case finding, environmental-sanitation review, and supervision of isolation precautions.
  • Visit isolated residents to ensure compliance with isolation precautions and aseptic technique.
  • Ensure laboratory support, including microbiological and serological services, is available.
  • Review and analyze infectious-disease laboratory reports and consult with the Director of Nursing Services on care plans and aseptic techniques.
  • Assist in developing and implementing decontamination and sterilization guidelines.
  • Test prepared sterile packs, bundles, supplies, and sterilization equipment periodically.
  • Monitor the shelf life of medical items wrapped and sterilized at the facility and reprocess them as necessary.
  • Ensure personnel follow procedures for disposal and removal of infective and contaminated materials.
  • Prepare monthly summaries of resident and personnel infections, corrective actions, and results, and submit them to the Administrator and Director of Nursing Services.
  • Prepare summaries of investigations into nosocomial and community-acquired infections and report findings and recommendations to the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Maintain written records of residents and employees with nosocomial infections.
  • Participate in carrier surveys and trace possible sources of infection within the facility.
  • Assist Laundry and Environmental Services directors in developing infection-control procedures for laundry, linen, isolation-room cleaning, terminal cleaning, and equipment cleaning.
  • Participate in facility inspections conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Assist with discharge plans for residents in isolation or under infection-control precautions.
  • Assist in developing and implementing a facility-wide tuberculosis management and control program.
  • Report reportable diseases to county and state health departments.
  • Complete medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, and charting as necessary.
  • Serve on and attend Infection Control Committee meetings and represent the committee as required.
  • Assist the Infection Control Committee in evaluating and revising infection-control practices and aseptic technique.
  • Help establish criteria for classifying tasks involving exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Provide written and oral reports to the Infection Control Committee concerning nosocomial infections.
  • Ensure major changes to cleaning products or techniques receive Infection Control Committee approval.
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing Infection Control Committee recommendations.
  • Provide tuberculosis assessment information and recommendations for isolating tuberculosis cases.
  • Develop and implement systems for detecting, evaluating, recording, and reporting infections originating with facility personnel.
  • Assist the personnel director with employee health services and provide individual counseling.
  • Provide counseling under the infection-control and employee-health program.
  • Provide personnel with information about hepatitis B vaccination policies.
  • Establish tuberculosis Mantoux testing and recordkeeping protocols for employees.
  • Orient new employees on infection-control policies, personal hygiene, hand hygiene, and blood/body-fluid exposure procedures.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals according to facility policy.
  • Meet with staff to identify and correct problem areas and improve services.
  • Maintain working relationships with department directors, personnel, medical professionals, and health-related facilities and organizations.
  • Review personnel complaints and grievances and make appropriate reports to the Administrator or Director of Nursing Services.
  • Report known or suspected fraud to the Administrator.
  • Ensure unattended departmental computer workstations are logged off or protected by the facility’s automatic screen-saver policy.
  • Participate in interviewing and selecting residents for facility admission.
  • Ensure nursing-service personnel follow isolation precautions, aseptic technique, and standard or universal precautions.
  • Ensure residents with communicable or infectious diseases are isolated or placed on infection-control precautions.
  • Explain isolation and standard or universal precautions to residents and family members.
  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
  • Encourage attending physicians to document and sign progress notes and orders promptly and in accordance with regulations.
  • Monitor medication passes and treatments for proper hand hygiene during administration.
  • Review nurses’ notes for residents under isolation precautions to ensure documentation reflects the care provided and resident response.
  • Assist nursing personnel with nursing-care procedures as necessary.
  • Obtain culture samples according to established procedures.
  • Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain infection-control and employee-health orientation programs.
  • Assist support services with infection-control in-service training programs.
  • Assist the In-Service Director or Educator with annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention training on hazard communication, tuberculosis management, and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Develop training for personnel performing tasks involving blood or body-fluid exposure.
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs to the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Maintain adequate on-site medical supplies and equipment for resident needs.
  • Assist the maintenance director with preventive maintenance for nursing equipment and supplies.
  • Develop procedures for efficient use of nursing supplies and prevention of waste.
  • Ensure contaminated equipment is labeled or tagged before repair or decontamination.
  • Assist with infectious-waste and supply-disposal policies and procedures.
  • Develop written care plans for residents in isolation or under infection-control precautions.
  • Encourage residents to participate in care-plan development and review and explain infection-control practices.
  • Schedule care plans for discussion at committee meetings.
  • Ensure personnel providing resident care are aware of the care plan.
  • Ensure care plans are reviewed before daily care or procedures involving blood/body-fluid exposure.
  • Review nurses’ notes to determine whether care plans are followed.
  • Review and revise care plans as necessary and at least quarterly.
  • Coordinate with services involved in care planning to support infection prevention and control.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services with the department budget for infection-control activities.
  • Monitor economic conditions and recommend budget adjustments that preserve infection-control capabilities.

  • Report suspected or known fraud involving false billings, cost reports, or kickbacks.
  • Identify and classify tasks with potential blood/body-fluid exposure.

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman.
