Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a maintenance technician in commercial applications.
- Knowledge of state and local building codes and regulations.
- Reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 or more pounds.
- Ability to use a ladder, step stool, man hatch, and lift.
- Ability to perform the physical tasks of walking, standing, stooping, reaching, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, balancing, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and directions.
- Basic computer and typing skills.
- Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and emergency on-call situations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and install systems supporting cannabis production and the facility, including grow lighting, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, environmental controls, electrical panels, processing equipment, and general facility infrastructure.
- Perform general facility maintenance, including drywall repair, painting, light plumbing repairs, and order pickups.
- Inspect and troubleshoot electrical systems, including grow lighting, 24-volt irrigation systems, reverse-osmosis skids, rooftop units, and 277/480-volt and 120/208-volt panels.
- Perform routine maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and grow equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation.
- Install, maintain, modify, and repair switches, relays, circuit breakers, wiring, fans, generators, rooftop-unit services, lighting systems, dehumidification systems, steam-generating systems, pumps, and ozone-generation systems.
- Assist with installing and configuring systems for new grow rooms, processing areas, and facility expansions.
- Upgrade and optimize existing systems to support energy efficiency and operational improvements.
- Ensure work complies with local and state codes and cannabis industry regulations.
- Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration and facility-specific safety protocols while maintaining a clean, hazard-free work environment.
- Work with the Maintenance team on 24-volt irrigation and lighting panels.
- Work with the Maintenance team and environmental systems support to ensure proper functioning of temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide controls used in cannabis cultivation.
- Maintain and repair backup power systems, including generators and battery backups.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and system upgrades.
- Report system status and issues to management and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Use MaintainX for preventive-maintenance software and task management.
- Collaborate with cultivation, processing, and facilities teams to minimize downtime and maintain seamless operations.
- Help maintain a consistent room turnover rate throughout the year.
- Support equipment used in cannabis extraction, packaging, and other production processes.
- Respond to emergency situations while on call.
- Assist in inspecting contractor installations of electrical components and future projects.
Desired Qualifications
- An Environmental Protection Agency license.
- Additional certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, electrical, plumbing, or controls systems.
- Experience with cannabis facilities.
- Familiarity with grow lighting systems such as light-emitting diode and high-pressure sodium systems, climate-control systems, and automated 24-volt irrigation systems.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to respond calmly and clearly to emergency situations.
- Strong attention to detail.
