Requirements
- Six months of experience as a unit assistant or in a similar position is required.
- A current Basic Life Support certification from an American Heart Association-approved agency is required.
- Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia course or passing the hospital-specific Basic Arrhythmia exam within the first 90 days of employment is required.

Responsibilities
- Provide basic patient care autonomously and at the direction of the RN, supporting safe and efficient care for patients on MedSurg and ICU.
- Maintain a helpful, positive, professional manner when assisting patients, visitors, and staff; answer phones, direct callers, relay messages, and assist and guide patients and visitors with respect and compassion.
- Keep nursing stations tidy and organized; maintain complete, current patient charts from admission through discharge and send them to medical records; update the unit assignment board throughout the shift and the daily census sheet at shift end.
- Collaborate with nursing and the House Supervisor to assign patient beds; notify the RN of new admissions and completed discharge paperwork; coordinate discharge paperwork, schedule follow-up appointments, assist case management with acute transfers, and transport discharged patients to the lobby as needed.
- Ensure discharge paperwork is complete, follow-up appointments are made, and discharge paperwork is faxed to the patient's primary care provider within the specified timeframe to support the PRIME Grant initiative.
- Respond promptly to call lights, determine how best to assist patients, round frequently, report findings outside normal limits to the RN, update patient whiteboards, and help keep patient belongings safe and accounted for.
- Maintain telemetry-monitoring competency; admit and discharge patients from monitors, observe rhythms for changes, notify the RN of abnormalities, and print, review, and interpret rhythm strips each shift.
- Support a healthy work environment by contributing discretionary effort, remaining curious and nonjudgmental, maintaining a positive attitude, fostering teamwork across disciplines, seeking solutions, and engaging in problem-solving while avoiding gossip and negativity.
- Put away equipment and unused supplies, submit work orders for faulty or broken equipment to the appropriate team, clean and disinfect equipment according to infection-prevention policy, perform hand hygiene before and after patient interactions and when hands are visibly soiled, and report unanticipated events through the Midas System.
- Use supplies responsibly and complete accurate billing and charge capture promptly for all ACU patients.
- Maintain knowledge and skill in telemetry monitoring.
Desired Qualifications
- At least one year of experience as a telemetry technician or nursing student who has completed the first semester of nursing school is preferred.
- A current Certified Nursing Assistant license from the State of California is preferred.
