Requirements
- Must have attended an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program.
- Must be currently licensed or registered in the applicable state and maintain an active Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse license in good standing throughout employment.
- A graduate of an accredited practical nurse program with six months of patient care experience is required.
- One year of geriatric nursing experience is preferred.
- Must have CPR certification upon hire or obtain it during orientation, and the certification must remain current during employment.
- A current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer certification is required.
- Must have advanced knowledge in the field of practice.
- Must be knowledgeable about skilled nursing facility practices and procedures and the laws, regulations, and guidelines governing long-term care and short-term rehabilitation.
- Must be able to implement and interpret clinical services programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Must perform proficiently in direct nursing care, nursing leadership, patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and follow company policies, harassment procedures, compliance procedures, and the Code of Conduct.
- Must be computer literate.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, push, pull, stoop, walk, reach, and move intermittently during working hours.
- Must be able to lift and carry 35 pounds and push or pull 35 pounds.
- Must have dependable, regular attendance and be able to work weekends, holidays, extended hours, and temporary assignments as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Deliver quality nursing care to patients on the nursing care unit in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and MUSC Health standards.
- Provide care and services that enable patients to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.
- Assign duties to, instruct, and provide clinical supervision to certified nursing assistants.
- Chart appropriately and timely.
- Monitor and report changes in patient condition.
- Assist in evacuating patients.
- Attend and participate in continuing education programs.
- Work collaboratively with patients, care team members, visitors, vendors, and government personnel.
- Communicate and function productively on an interdisciplinary team.
- Maintain professional working relationships with care team members and vendors.
- Apply independent judgment when circumstances warrant.
- Support patient-centered care and departmental standards for guest relations.
