Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
  • Hold a current license or be eligible for licensure under the statutes in the state of practice.
  • Have the ability to understand and follow the Occupational Therapist's directions and facility policies and procedures.
  • Be able to stand for prolonged periods; push or pull up to 35 pounds; lift up to 50 pounds independently and, with assistance or a mechanical lift, more than 50 pounds; stoop, reach, and balance safely.
  • Preferably have experience in a setting serving the same age or type of resident population as this facility.
  • Have communication and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
  • Provide occupational therapy treatments to residents according to treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Assist the Occupational Therapist with tests, evaluations, and complex treatment procedures.
  • Observe, record, and report resident conditions, reactions, and responses related to assigned duties.
  • Maintain daily treatment records and document resident progress notes as directed by the therapist.
  • Assist with admission screening.
  • Assist the therapist in consulting with family members, physicians, and other health care professionals, as appropriate.
  • Assist with the care of the occupational therapy department and its equipment.
  • Assist the Occupational Therapist with in-service programs and other meetings as assigned.
  • Pursue continuing education appropriate to the discipline and responsibilities to maintain clinical currency.
  • Comply with Heritage Healthcare's regulatory and professional standards and guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in rehabilitation team conferences, or provide information for them, regarding resident progress, problems, or needs.
  • Adhere to company and facility policies and procedures and participate in facility quality improvement and safety programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Understand reimbursement by various payers and allocate therapy resources efficiently in accordance with resident goals, outcomes, and discharge destination.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OBRA regulations, HIPAA, Local Coverage Determination, and third-party reimbursement guidelines.
  • Support the company's commitment to Compassionate Care and project a professional image that fosters confidence in the rehabilitation program.
  • Perform duties independently, recognize when direct supervision is needed, and willingly help others.
  • Maintain the productivity level discussed and expected for the position at the facility or facilities.
