About the Job

Requirements

  • Have 7 or more years of product management experience shipping products used by external customers.
  • Have a record of owning a business or product metric and changing its trajectory, with a before-and-after example.
  • Have experience building something from zero to one without a specification, a defined customer, or a playbook.
  • Have technical depth sufficient for engineers to treat you as a peer, demonstrated through a degree in Computer Science or Engineering, prior engineering experience, or fluency in system architecture trade-offs.
  • Be able to set multi-year direction and review the details of a screen flow in the same week.
  • Have executive-level communication and presence, and be comfortable presenting and defending strategy to the CEO, CPO, and customers.
  • Be based in a North American time zone; strong candidates in Europe may also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Own the three-year vision for device installation and provisioning, defining how Samsara hardware comes online as the platform expands across new products, device types, and geographies.
  • Own install correctness by setting the target, instrumenting the funnel so every outcome is attributable, and improving the metric quarter over quarter.
  • Own the guided install and verification flow in the Samsara Fleet app for professional installers and customers installing hardware themselves.
  • Build the intelligence that verifies an installation is correct by checking camera aim, wiring, and signal quality while the installer is still at the vehicle.
  • Give operations leaders a live view of fleet readiness, including what is installed, verified, and producing data.
  • Ride along on installations and run sessions in customer yards, then use observations to shape the roadmap for hardware, firmware, and software decisions.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles as the company scales globally.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience building mobile products for people who work with their hands in loud, time-pressured, or offline conditions.
  • A habit of primary research, with specific examples of what observing a customer taught you that a dashboard could not.
  • Prior work on products where software and hardware depend on each other.
  • Experience instrumenting a funnel and running experiments against it.

About the Company

Samsara

Builds AI dash cams and fleet tracking software

Samsara makes connected cameras, sensors, and software that let organizations with vehicle fleets and heavy equipment track and manage their field operations in one system. Its flagship AI dash cams watch both the road and the driver and warn about phone use or tailgating as it happens, and fleets use the recorded video to clear drivers of blame after crashes. Devices in vehicles and on equipment send location and engine data to a cloud dashboard, where managers plan routes, schedule maintenance, and log drivers' hours. Customers range from trucking firms to city governments, and they pay subscriptions priced per vehicle or asset. Samsara was founded in 2015 and is based in San Francisco, California.
