Helcim raises $53M at $250M valuation as RBC, BMO sell Moneris to US buyer

The Business Development Bank of Canada's growth venture unit has led a $53-million equity financing in Calgary-based payments processor Helcim, valuing the company at $250 million. This represents a significant increase from Helcim's $97-million valuation in its previous 2024 capital raise. The financing comes as Canadian banks exit the payments processing sector. Helcim CEO Nicolas Beique told The Globe and Mail the company experienced "a huge influx of business" after TD Bank sold its payments unit to Milwaukee-based Fiserv last year. The recent $2-billion sale of Moneris Solutions by RBC and BMO to Francisco Partners is expected to further accelerate Helcim's growth, as domestic merchants seek Canadian alternatives amidst data sovereignty concerns.

Fondaction and BDC invest in Icentia to accelerate cardiovascular diagnostic tech rollout

Fondaction and the Business Development Bank of Canada have invested in Icentia, a Québec medical technology company. The funding round, which included existing investors Investissement Québec, CIC Capital, and the Theodorus Fund, will accelerate deployment of Icentia's CardioSTAT® technology. CardioSTAT® is a long-term ambulatory cardiac monitoring solution combining a single-use ECG recorder with artificial intelligence-powered analysis. Icentia operates cardiac diagnostic facilities in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Fondaction manages more than $4.5 billion in net assets as of 31 May 2026.
