Requirements
  • 10+ years of data engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years operating at a principal or staff individual-contributor level in a startup environment.
  • Production-grade experience with Snowflake and dbt, including designing, owning, and scaling them in a real product environment.
  • Hands-on AWS experience at scale, including cloud data architecture, cost governance, and infrastructure as code.
  • DataOps experience, including continuous integration and continuous delivery for data pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and deployment practices that treat data infrastructure like production software.
  • Significant demonstrated use of artificial intelligence tools in day-to-day engineering work, such as Claude, Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools, to support architecture reasoning, code generation and review, and problem solving.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL, with strong command of distributed systems, data pipeline design, and performance optimization.
  • Strong data modeling background, including dimensional modeling, schema design, and data contracts.
  • Experience building data infrastructure that directly supports machine learning and artificial intelligence systems, including feature pipelines, training data management, and inference-layer data serving.
  • A demonstrated track record of setting technical standards across teams through RFCs, architecture reviews, or platform migrations.
  • Strong grasp of data governance fundamentals, including data lineage, cataloging, access control, and quality monitoring, with practical production implementation experience.
  • Familiarity with real-time and near-real-time data architectures, including streaming, event-driven design, and change data capture.
  • Ability to translate complex data infrastructure trade-offs into plain language for product and business audiences.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical direction for how data flows, scales, and powers decisions across the platform.
  • Own the data architecture supporting high-throughput pipelines, real-time matching signals, and artificial-intelligence-driven product experiences.
  • Lead design reviews for critical platform components and evaluate trade-offs across scalability, cost, reliability, and time to insight.
  • Evaluate and introduce modern data-stack tooling aligned with engineering principles and business needs.
  • Own observability, alerting, and operational-readiness standards for tier-one pipelines, including runbooks, failover strategies, and reprocessing protocols.
  • Make significant technical decisions and drive projects end to end with limited oversight.
  • Design and implement robust batch data pipelines using Snowflake and dbt for transformation, ingesting and serving product telemetry, marketplace signals, employer activity, and candidate behavior data.
  • Establish data-modeling standards, including schema design, dimensional modeling, and data contracts, for analytics, machine-learning feature engineering, and product instrumentation.
  • Personally solve complex data integration, performance, and reliability challenges through hands-on implementation.
  • Architect and evolve streaming data infrastructure using technologies such as KSQL and Apache Flink for real-time matching, recommendation, and product decisioning systems.
  • Partner with Platform Engineers and Data Analysts to design feature stores, training-data pipelines, and inference-ready datasets for the artificial intelligence matching engine.
  • Work with Data Analytics stakeholders to ensure data products are well-modeled, documented, and performant for self-service consumption.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging artificial-intelligence-powered tools to improve operational efficiency and developer productivity.
  • Define and enforce data-governance policies for data quality, lineage, access control, and cataloging across the organization.
  • Implement data-validation frameworks, service-level-agreement monitoring, and anomaly detection to maintain data integrity.
  • Design data systems with privacy-by-default principles aligned with applicable regulations, including the California Consumer Privacy Act and General Data Protection Regulation.
  • Mentor and level up data engineers through code reviews and design guidance.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering, Product, and Analytics to establish data requirements at project inception.
  • Drive adoption of data-platform standards and architectural patterns across teams through communication, documentation, and trust-building.
  • Identify and execute fixes for bottlenecks, architectural bugs, and performance issues affecting system stability.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with real-time streaming technologies such as KSQL or Apache Flink, including building or operating streaming pipelines in production.
  • Terraform experience.
