Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current unrestricted state nursing licensure.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification upon hire with biannual renewal.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification annually.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and to delegate and coordinate through leadership skills.
  • Ability to communicate with people of diverse backgrounds and educational levels, including patients, families, employees, and physicians.
  • Participation in continuing education and continued professional self-improvement.
  • Ability to work any shift, day of the week, or irregular hours as required by emergencies.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly.
  • Ability to work in an environment with biohazard and blood-borne pathogen exposure.
  • Ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.
  • Compliance with hospital policies, attendance requirements, infection control procedures, standard precautions, personal protective equipment requirements, privacy laws, safety procedures, and applicable nursing practice laws.
Responsibilities
  • Provide quality patient care by assisting with outpatient procedures.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Communicate with doctors, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners about patient conditions.
  • Assist physicians during procedures, including charting vital signs and patient status and collecting and labeling specimens.
  • Prepare procedure suites according to the daily schedule and procedure requirements.
  • Place blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeter sensors, nasal cannulas, and cardiac electrodes appropriately.
  • Assist with patient positioning.
  • Delegate tasks to medical assistants within their scope of practice.
  • Handle instruments and equipment properly to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Clean, disinfect, and reprocess instruments according to manufacturer recommendations and hospital policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of sterile, non-sterile, and disinfected instrument inventory, function, availability, and location.
  • Operate and handle special equipment according to manufacturer recommendations.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and contact biomedical services when further service is required.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and equipment based on department needs.
  • Use equipment and supplies economically.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient care information and protect patient privacy.
  • Communicate timely and appropriate information to the healthcare team.
  • Participate in procedure scheduling, staff training, statistics maintenance, quality assurance projects, staff meetings, and required education in-services.
  • Perform independent patient monitoring.
  • Chart appropriately in the electronic medical record.
  • Scan patients and medications when administering medications and document in the electronic medication administration record.
  • Communicate changes in patient condition immediately to the appropriate care provider.
  • Evaluate treatments and document patient responses.
  • Notify care providers of untoward responses to treatments.
  • Maintain a well-stocked and clean department by cleaning equipment and replacing supplies.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and hospital emergency codes.
  • Perform assigned tasks completely and thoroughly.
