About the Job

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline.
  • 2–4+ years of hands-on experience in hardware bring-up, bench testing, or product qualification test campaigns.
  • Experience testing RF and high-speed I/O, including high-speed serial, RF, or optical links, using equipment such as vector network analyzers, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes, BERTs, and other signal integrity measurement tools; experience limited to low-speed digital or logic circuit testing is insufficient.
  • Proficiency with laboratory test equipment, including oscilloscopes, power supplies, thermal chambers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience developing test hardware with PCB design and fabrication partners, including defining specifications, reviewing designs, and supporting test board or fixture bring-up.
  • Ability to run test campaigns methodically and produce clean, traceable results.
  • Experience coordinating with reliability engineering, product engineering, external laboratories, and OSAT partners to execute qualification activities.
  • Ability to take ownership and adapt in a fast-paced, resource-conscious startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bench and laboratory product qualification tests, including thermal, electrical, mechanical, and environmental stress tests, in accordance with qualification plans and test matrices; track samples, test conditions, and results.
  • Develop test PCBs and fixtures with external partners, including test boards, adapters, and fixtures, from requirements through review and bring-up.
  • Set up and maintain qualification test equipment, including thermal chambers, power supplies, data acquisition systems, probe stations, and other laboratory instrumentation.
  • Coordinate qualification campaigns with OSATs and external laboratories by managing schedules, sample logistics, and test execution, and provide on-site or remote test supervision where needed.
  • Collect, analyze, and document qualification results; produce pass/fail assessments, test reports, and traceable records for the product qualification evidence package.
  • Identify and communicate test failures, equipment limitations, data anomalies, or schedule risks to the Package Reliability Engineer and Quality & Reliability Program Lead.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with photonics testing.
  • Experience with RF and high-speed characterization equipment such as vector network analyzers, BERTs, and high-bandwidth oscilloscopes.

About the Company

Black Semiconductor

Graphene photonics enable optical chip interconnects

Black Semiconductor develops graphene-based photonics that integrate optical components into the outer layers of CMOS-like chips, enabling direct optical chip-to-chip communication. It works by using graphene as a translator to convert electronic signals to optical signals and back, so electrons on silicon can talk to photons through integrated photonic interconnects. This approach differs from traditional silicon photonics or pure electronic interconnects by being CMOS-compatible, wafer-scale, and capable of linking multiple chips as a single high-performance unit while reducing production steps by about 60%. The company aims to move from pilot production to mass manufacturing, building a 300mm wafer facility (FabONE) in Aachen, with pilot production by 2027 and mass production by 2031, backed by a large European funding round and investors.
