Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A Registered Pharmacy Technician credential in the state of Pennsylvania is required upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in preparing and filling medications for inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Support department initiatives and daily workflow by ensuring that proper medications and tools are available for the clinical team and patients.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values.
  • Prepare drug orders from physicians for review and dispensing by a registered pharmacist.
  • Replenish Pyxis machines, monitor and record refrigerator temperatures when filling, document corrective actions when needed, and inform the Pharmacy Manager of ongoing issues.
  • Count, compound, and repackage pharmaceuticals using established procedures.
  • Dispense and distribute medications to patient areas; reorder and restock pharmacy, department, and nursing-unit inventory; restock returns; evaluate stock for expired medications; and perform necessary monitoring and documentation.
  • Perform billing and crediting functions to ensure proper billing of dispensed medications in compliance with hospital finance policies, including documenting waste.
  • Pick up physician orders from team centers regularly and as additionally required by the pharmacist.
  • Arrange bins and stock neatly, remove items from bulk storage, dust shelves, remove open boxes, and keep work areas neat and clean.
  • Replenish specialty and code carts and document cart restocking using a sign-out sheet with the time, date, and items replaced.
  • Use aseptic techniques to prepare intravenous medications, record intravenous refrigeration daily, and transport intravenous medications to the nursing floor.
  • Maintain competencies related to the intravenous laboratory, Pyxis, McKesson Automation, and CAPS.
  • Review and complete assigned inspections every other month and maintain department and hospital competencies to ensure work is performed properly, including examining expiration dates and storage conditions for light, refrigeration, heat, and security.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
