Requirements
- A law degree is required.
- Membership in the Michigan Bar is required.
- Knowledge of and adherence to applicable rules of professional conduct.
- Ability to conduct legal research and writing.
- Ability to speak publicly.
- Familiarity with the United States Constitution and Michigan Constitution.
- Knowledge of applicable case law, statutes, court rules, and rules of evidence.
- Ability to think logically and objectively analyze and evaluate facts and issues to form impartial judgments.
- Public relations skills and ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to take direction from others and apply it to assignments.
- Willingness and ability to work flexibly and assist others.
- Employment is dependent on a background check, criminal history check, and drug screen.
- Completion of the County application form is required.
Responsibilities
- Represent Van Buren County as an appointed Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.
- Primarily handle matters in the 7th District Court in Paw Paw, Michigan.
- Review and screen warrant requests for authorization.
- Handle district court prosecutions, including formal hearings, misdemeanor pretrial conferences, misdemeanor jury and non-jury trials, felony probable cause conferences, and preliminary examinations.
- Participate in a specialty treatment court when assigned.
- Assist and counsel police agencies on criminal investigations and review search warrants.
- Handle circuit court-level felony trials on a case-by-case basis when required.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior prosecutorial experience.
