About the job

Requirements
  • Three or more years supervising production in a manufacturing, print, packaging, or fulfillment operation, with accountability for output, quality, and cost.
  • Ability to read a production plan, understand takt and capacity, and respond when production falls behind plan.
  • Proven experience leading an hourly production team, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Demonstrated ownership of Total Productive Maintenance on a production floor, including autonomous maintenance and clean-inspect-lubricate routines, preventive maintenance schedule adherence, downtime capture and analysis, overall equipment effectiveness, and structured root-cause analysis.
  • Mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot equipment alongside technicians and willingness to work hands-on with machines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with leadership in another location and engineering, including shift handovers, escalations, and corrective actions.
  • Comfort working across time zones with the Head of Production in Chicago and building a working relationship with engineers.
  • Formal Total Productive Maintenance training, or at least five years of experience working in a Total Productive Maintenance facility.
  • Mechanical and electromechanical aptitude, including ability to read a manual, follow a fault tree, and confidently use hand tools.
  • Data literacy, including comfort with Excel and enterprise resource planning, manufacturing execution, or computerized maintenance management systems, and ability to use a production dashboard to make decisions.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, lockout/tagout, and machine guarding.
  • Ability to work on the production floor for a full shift, including standing and walking throughout, occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to machine noise, paper dust, and ink.
  • Ability to work the primary shift and provide weekend and peak-season coverage.
Responsibilities
  • Staff the shift to meet the day's plan and balance operators across print, plotting, inserting, and finishing as workload changes.
  • Create and maintain the shift schedule, monitor attendance, and flag coverage gaps early.
  • Run a start-of-shift huddle covering prior results, the day's plan, overdue work, and machine downtime; conduct routine floor check-ins to identify bottlenecks.
  • Build and maintain a cross-training matrix, coordinate and oversee employee training on standard operating procedures, safety, and responsibilities, and close training gaps.
  • Set performance standards, give feedback in the moment, conduct performance conversations, and address attendance and conduct issues.
  • Own shift safety through hazard walks, near-miss reporting, lockout/tagout discipline, and empowering workers to stop unsafe machines.
  • Provide a written handover to the next shift covering completed and incomplete work and next steps.
  • Translate the production schedule into a station-by-station plan and resequence work when machines fail or priorities change; manage the priority lane for urgent work.
  • Protect on-time delivery by prioritizing overdue and at-risk jobs and escalating early when the daily plan cannot be recovered.
  • Assess production capacity for each plotter type and flag when committed volume exceeds available machines or staffing.
  • Keep work flowing between production steps to prevent queues from building ahead of plotting or envelope stations.
  • Align daily and upcoming plans with Assistant Operations Managers and leadership, communicating anticipated workload, staffing needs, and risks.
  • Train and hold operators to daily machine-cleaning, inspection, and setup standards.
  • Ensure scheduled preventive maintenance occurs on time, track adherence, protect maintenance windows, and schedule service appointments and third-party vendors as needed.
  • Follow breakdown escalation protocols, troubleshoot hands-on, and involve technicians, engineering, or outside providers as appropriate.
  • Log machine stoppages with causes and duration, and use the data to identify costly machines and failure modes.
  • Lead structured problem-solving, including 5 Why and fishbone analysis, on repeat failures and drive countermeasures to completion.
  • Track machine availability, performance, and quality, and use the data to support decisions about spares, rebuilds, or replacement.
  • Maintain critical spares and consumables and keep computerized maintenance management system records current.
  • Maintain 5S at each station, including shadow boards and visual standards, and keep equipment clean enough to reveal leaks or loose parts.
  • Give the Head of Production regular updates on shift performance, overdue volume, downtime, quality, safety, and risks, escalating issues early.
  • Carry priorities, key performance indicators, and standards from the Head of Production to the floor consistently across shifts.
  • Work with the Los Angeles engineering team on equipment faults, modifications, and improvements; provide reproducible fault information and ensure modifications are followed by updated standard work and operator training.
  • Bring floor feedback to engineering and leadership so improvements reflect how the machines are operated.
  • Write clear escalations, handovers, and corrective actions that colleagues at other locations or teams can act on.
  • Own shift scrap, identify the production step generating it, and address its causes.
  • Conduct first-piece approval and in-process checks to catch machine setup issues early.
  • Maintain standards for handwriting quality, print registration, insertion accuracy, and address legibility on plotted envelopes.
  • Investigate customer-reported defects and close corrective actions.
  • Conduct daily inventory counts, maintain accurate records, and flag potential shortages before they affect production.
  • Oversee receipt and verification of deliveries and keep supplies, sample packs, and trade show materials organized and available.
  • Maintain required counts, logs, and tracking documents, including Pitney Bowes mail slips.
  • Oversee day-to-day production-floor upkeep, conduct walkthroughs, and coordinate facility repairs and recurring services with the maintenance technician.
  • Run kaizen activities with production operators.
  • Write and maintain standard work so processes are consistent across shifts.
  • Build visual-management boards showing plan versus actual, machine status, and quality holds.
  • Use Claude and other artificial intelligence tools to analyze shift data and downtime patterns and to update standard operating procedures and reporting.
  • Learn each machine and operator on the shift, identify constraints, establish daily clean-inspect-lubricate routines, track downtime causes and repeat failures, create a visible cross-training matrix, and establish regular communication with production leadership and engineering.
  • Monitor schedule attainment, machine availability and overall equipment effectiveness, preventive maintenance adherence, mean time between failures, scrap and customer defect rates, corrective-action closure, safety incidents, team retention and attendance, cross-training coverage, internal promotions, and communication with production leadership and engineering.
Desired Qualifications
  • Direct mail, commercial print, bindery, packaging, or high-mix fulfillment experience.
  • Experience introducing autonomous maintenance to a team that has not used it before.
  • Computerized maintenance management system implementation or administration experience.
  • Experience working directly with in-house engineering on custom-built or modified equipment.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.

What believers are saying

  • Case studies show 37.74x ROI for Gorjanc and $1M revenue in nine months.
  • The company is still actively offering $15,000 credits and 2026 partnership programs.
  • Its 2026 website and LinkedIn updates indicate active product iteration and selling momentum.

What critics are saying

  • Lob, PebblePost, and Reachdesk compete directly on automation and enterprise distribution.
  • Case-study heavy marketing signals weak independent validation and dependence on self-reported ROI.
  • If robotic handwriting loses novelty, lettrlabs' core edge collapses by 2027.

What makes LettrLabs unique

  • LettrLabs pairs robotic handwriting with direct mail automation, unlike standard postcard platforms.
  • It sells an all-in-one system: targeting, design, tracking, and campaign automation.
  • Its case studies focus on niche verticals like HVAC, plumbing, and e-commerce.
