Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in data engineering or software development, with a track record of designing and delivering production data systems.
  • Experience building, shipping, and operating production software.
  • Strong programming skills in at least one general-purpose language.
  • Meaningful programming experience beyond SQL.
  • Understanding of modular design, application programming interfaces, testing, error handling, and maintainability.
  • Working knowledge of relational data concepts, including schemas, keys, transactions, and data integrity.
  • Experience with unit and integration testing and diagnosing production failures.
  • Willingness to own systems and participate in on-call support.
  • Ability to contribute to design reviews and explain technical decisions clearly.
  • Active use of artificial intelligence for more than code completion.
  • Sound judgment when evaluating artificial-intelligence-generated output.
  • Ability to influence team architecture and engineering practices and initiate improvements.
  • Ability to coordinate complex integrations across adjacent teams and clearly draft design proposals and request-for-comment documents.
  • Ability to guide junior engineers through data design patterns, systems thinking, and artificial-intelligence-assisted development practices.
  • Ability to lead data products as first-class assets with consumer service-level agreements, versioning, and lifecycle ownership.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain production application programming interfaces, backend services, libraries, operational data stores, and data-processing applications.
  • Participate in system design, design reviews, and technical tradeoff discussions.
  • Design clear interfaces, service boundaries, schemas, and data contracts.
  • Write modular, testable, observable, and maintainable software.
  • Own systems through deployment, monitoring, incident response, maintenance, and retirement.
  • Build reliable systems that handle retries, schema changes, duplicate events, partial failures, and unexpected inputs.
  • Use artificial intelligence throughout design, planning, implementation, testing, review, and codebase exploration.
  • Validate artificial-intelligence-generated output and remain responsible for understanding and operating shipped software.
  • Share useful artificial-intelligence workflows, experiments, and lessons with the team.
  • Participate in on-call support and improve systems based on production experience.

  • Practical opinions about where artificial-intelligence tools are useful, where they are unreliable, and how to improve their output.

Anacostia Rail Holdings appoints Aimee Nolan as Chief Legal Officer. Anacostia Rail Holdings (ARH) has appointed Aimee Nolan as Chief Legal Officer, effective immediately. She joins the executive leadership team and will oversee legal, compliance, governance, and risk functions as the company continues to grow. Nolan succeeds Mark Sidman, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, who will retire on March 31, 2026, after more than ten years with ARH. Since joining the company in 2013, Sidman played a key role in supporting long-term growth and strengthening governance and integrity across the organisation. Nolan joins ARH from Zoro Tools, Inc., a subsidiary of W.W. Grainger, Inc., where she served as General Counsel and executive leadership team member.
