News in brief: Hay for Holman; EV battery warranty; Connected data for small fleets. News 2 hours ago Nick Hay is new Managing Director of Holman. NICK Hay is the new Managing Director of leasing and fleet management company Holman UK, effective 08 June 2026. Hay brings a strong track record of driving growth and building high-performing teams across the automotive and logistics sectors, as Holman looks for a more aggressive stance in the sector. With more than 30 years' experience in logistics, Hay has served as Managing Director of Samworth Brothers Distribution, was Chief Executive Officer of Fowler Welch for 10 years and, most recently, CEO of supply chain specialist Gist. Nick Hay, who started in his new role on 8 June, said: "This is the most excited I have been about a new role in many years. As I have got to know Holman, I have been struck by the strength of its culture and the real value its services deliver for customers. "Combining that culture and service offering with long-term ownership creates a strong foundation for growth. I am looking forward to getting to know the team, our customers and our suppliers as we continue to strengthen Holman's position in the UK." Aviloo battery warranty for used EVs. EV battery diagnostics firm Aviloo has launched the UK's first financially backed battery warranty for used electric vehicles. The Aviloo Battery Warranty, which provides used EV buyers with financially backed protection based on independent battery health data, comes into effect in July in the UK, launching simultaneously in Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Ireland and Switzerland, following successful rollouts in France and Sweden in June. The used EV market in the UK is growing rapidly, and concern over RVs is beginning to dissipate, according to the latest report from Cazana. CEO of Aviloo, Marcus Berger, announcing the warranty, said: "The UK has one of Europe's most dynamic used EV markets, and we see enormous appetite from both dealers and consumers to get this right. With the Battery Warranty, we are setting a new industry standard - one that provides orientation for all market participants, strengthens the case for electric mobility, and ensures that used EVs are seen not as a risk, but as a sustainable, trustworthy choice." Small fleets can lower insurance costs with connected data. A NEW Geotab Report for small and medium-sized fleets has found that 58% of small fleets cite insurance premiums as one of their primary operational pressures. With insurers facing increased repair costs and higher claim frequencies, these costs are being passed onto operators. For many fleets, simply staying insurable in this high-cost market is becoming a strategic challenge. But Geotab says the solution lies in actively reducing risk and proving it with hard data. "By leveraging connected fleet technology and video telematics, businesses can protect their margins, exonerate their drivers, and fundamentally change their conversations with insurance providers," the company told Broker News. Here is how data-driven fleets can survive the insurance squeeze: Eliminate the cost of false claims with visual context. One of the most frustrating drivers of high insurance costs is the "he-said, she-said" scenario of a collision. Move from reactive to predictive safety. Insurers price their premiums based on risk. The best way to lower your insurance costs is to stop incidents before they happen. Telematics systems record precise behavioral data, such as harsh braking, rapid acceleration, and speeding. Turn your safety record into a negotiating tool. When it comes time to renew your policy, insurers want to see evidence of a well-managed, low-risk fleet. Historically, small fleets have had to rely on a lack of claims as their only proof of safety.

Commenting on the appointment, Martin said: "I'm delighted to be joining at such an exciting time of change within the industry. In an established market, the opportunity for positive change using data driven decision making means Holman can offer a truly different way to deliver cost and operational savings, with their unique approach to vehicle asset management." David Bushnell comments on the new AMAP rates. WITH the Approved Mileage Rates (AMAPs) rising by 10p per mile to 55p, David Bushnell, Director of Consultancy and Strategy at Fleet Operations said: "Any move to ease cost pressures for drivers is welcome, and this 10p increase in tax-free mileage rates will certainly be helpful for employees who use their own cars for business mileage and rely on AMAP payments. "Mileage rates have felt increasingly out of step with the real cost of running a vehicle, so this is a positive step for grey fleet drivers and the employers that rely on them. "However, it can only be viewed as a partial measure. It supports employees doing business mileage in their own vehicles, but it does little for fleets, company car drivers, commuters or businesses managing wider transport costs. "For many motorists and businesses, the bigger issue remains the day-to-day cost of mobility. Fuel prices, charging costs and the uneven tax treatment of public EV charging continue to put pressure on both drivers and employers." AMAP rates increased to 55p per mile for the 2026-27 financial year, applicable for the first 10,000 miles travelled in a personal car on business; mileage beyond 10,000 and the rate drops to the established 25p per mile.
