About the job
- Establish division and/or subsidiary objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards consistent with organizational strategy.
- Conduct market research to identify potential opportunities and customers, and maintain an effective business development program by securing new work routinely.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers at multiple levels.
- Monitor the overall quantity and quality of work performed by the division or subsidiary.
- Ensure alignment with the organization’s programs, policies, standards, and procedures, and manage and resolve issues that arise.
- Participate in the strategic planning process and actively participate with the General Manager peer group.
- Ensure effective communication with team members and the Harris organization.
- Plan, staff, and supervise all division activities, including personnel administration, performance reviews, and defining functions and responsibilities.
- Partner with the Human Capital team on recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and mentoring new talent.
- Demonstrate and promote the Harris team culture within the division, and emphasize a strong safety culture.
- Provide growth and development opportunities to the team through training and continuing education, and support other divisions as needed.
- Review monthly financial reports and proactively manage the business unit.
- Review project, job, work-order, and service-agreement reports to measure productivity and manage gross margin.
- Manage receivables, productivity, work/change orders, and other impacts to business performance.
- Achieve the annual business-unit plan and yearly growth objective through new customer acquisitions, retention of existing customers, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage sales activities, performance, and teams to achieve sales goals.
- Manage proposals and agreements within planned gross-profit margin.
- Develop an annual business plan that leverages the team’s capabilities to achieve organizational expectations.
- Proactively forecast expected business results on an ongoing basis and document accordingly.
- Research, understand, and explain or justify specific assumptions used in the business-unit forecast.
- Ensure the predictability of business results based on forecasts, assumptions, sales, backlog, and related factors.
- Demonstrate leadership through actions that embody Harris core values and serve as a role model of professional excellence in internal and external communications and interactions.
- Participate in Harris initiatives, including training, Strategic Team Meetings, STIMS, and other regional, national, and corporate initiatives.
- Demonstrate accountability for oneself, the teams, and business performance.
- Provide thought leadership on key industry trends and developments, and operate with transparency and candor with teams, regional peers, and corporate teams.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and/or direction to General Manager I where needed.
- Facilitate collaboration among all service divisions and their peer groups.
