About the Job

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Optics, Communications, or a related field.
  • Have a strong background in analog and radio-frequency electronics and circuit design, including noise, bandwidth, and delay analysis.
  • Have hands-on laboratory experience with lasers, modulators, photodetectors, and high-speed test equipment.
  • Have applied control theory on hardware, including closing feedback loops and diagnosing oscillation, drift, or loss of lock.
  • Have working knowledge of digital communications and signal processing.
  • Be available for at least six months, ideally 12 months or more, and work in the Sunnyvale office three days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Screen commercial lasers, modulators, and photodetectors, and measure characteristics not published by vendors.
  • Design loops that track carrier phase and frequency, and validate them against control theory.
  • Define requirements for the integrated optical phase-locked loop's laser, electronics, and loop.
  • Extend the physical-layer link model and reconcile it with measurement.

Desired Qualifications

  • Have experience with frequency stabilization, tunable sources, phase-locked loops, carrier recovery, or coherent detection.
  • Have photoreceiver, transimpedance amplifier, or high-speed circuit design experience.
  • Have experience with scientific Python, including NumPy, SciPy, or JAX; phase-noise modeling; or cycle-slip statistics.
  • Have knowledge of optical or radio-frequency communications, photonics, or fading channels.

About the Company

Taara

Wireless broadband via light-beam technology

Taara uses light beam technology to provide high-speed broadband without cables, offering fiber-like wireless connectivity. Its system relies on photonic communication to transmit data through light beams, delivering broadband especially in places where installing fiber is difficult. Unlike traditional fiber or fixed wireless players, Taara focuses on deploying resilient, flexible connectivity with pricing models that fit partners and customers, and it operates through partnerships and tailored solutions to generate revenue. Born from X's Moonshot Factory, Taara aims to bridge the digital divide by expanding access to information and opportunities worldwide, targeting both consumers and enterprises with global connectivity ambitions.
