Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional schooling and professional experience is required.
  • Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school is required.
  • Knowledge of the Music Recording discipline and the ability to provide high-quality classroom and/or online instruction.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to integrate appropriate teaching practices for different learning styles.
  • Written and oral communication, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and/or other required programs, Blackboard, and Owens email.
  • Ability to integrate varied methodologies to facilitate student learning.
  • Understanding of community college students' needs.
  • Ability to manage a classroom, including organizing and presenting material, designing lessons and activities, and monitoring student behavior and performance.
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to recognize students' strengths and weaknesses in the discipline and provide learning-focused feedback.
  • Ability to evaluate student work fairly using department guidelines.
  • Ability to use the college course management system, approved Owens-system-compatible programs, and electronic grade books and records.
  • Ability to attend required department and college workshops, training sessions, development activities, and meetings as needed.
  • Ability to participate in student learning assessment activities and perform assigned departmental duties.
  • Ability to demonstrate the college, school, and institutional core values and maintain professional, collegial behavior.
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, patience, and flexibility.
  • Certification and/or experience with audio recording and production software, including Pro Tools, Waves Plug-ins, Reason, and Apple Logic.
Responsibilities
  • Teach Music Recording classes, including 100- and 200-level coursework.
  • Develop a syllabus using the assigned syllabus shell, including evaluation procedures and an assignment calendar aligned with the course outline.
  • Prepare lesson plans and conduct classes during scheduled times using department-approved texts.
  • Follow department guidelines for course content and best practices.
  • Meet all classes on scheduled dates, on time, and for the full allotted duration.
  • For online instruction, follow Owens Community College Standards for Web Instruction.
  • Use appropriate classroom management techniques and technology.
  • Create and evaluate assignments, evaluative measures, and activities appropriate to the class.
  • Assign grades and return graded work in a timely manner, generally within one week.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and report attendance by published deadlines.
  • Maintain an accurate electronic grade book.
  • Submit final grades and electronic copies of grade books and attendance records to the Records Office and department course-management site by the deadline.
  • Administer course evaluations as instructed by the college.
  • Use the college course-management system for assigned courses and department matters.
  • Submit requested electronic documents, including syllabi, grade books, attendance records, and other files, to the department course-management site.
  • Access Owens email at least every other day, respond to required messages within 48 hours, check the campus mailbox weekly, and respond to student inquiries outside class in a timely manner.
  • Attend department and college workshops, training sessions, development activities, and meetings as needed.
  • Participate in student learning assessment activities and perform other assigned departmental duties.
  • Support the college, school, and institutional missions, visions, and core values.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in live sound reinforcement.
  • Experience with surround sound mixing.
  • Experience running a commercial recording studio.
