About the Company

City Year

Provides schoolwide tutoring and mentoring services

City Year supports students, classrooms, and whole schools by placing AmeriCorps members who mentor, tutor, and provide in-school help to raise academic performance and build future leaders. Members spend time with students in classrooms, and more time with them leads to bigger gains in English and math; the program is funded by AmeriCorps, school districts, and private donors and runs in 29 U.S. communities plus UK and South Africa. It differs from some tutoring programs by using a national service model with long-term, school-wide support from a dedicated corps across many communities, creating a scalable, community-connected network. The goal is to help students succeed academically and develop social-emotional skills while growing the next generation of community leaders.
