Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; registered nurses hired with an Associate's degree in nursing have two years to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
  • A valid Florida Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • At least two years of nursing experience is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures, including sanitation and decontamination, is required.
  • Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems is required.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assess assigned patients, evaluate care plans, document nursing care, and report symptoms and changes in patient conditions and vital signs.
  • Modify patient treatment plans based on patient responses, conditions, and physician orders.
  • Review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patient conditions.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Consider patient age and culture during treatments and provide information about treatment plans.
  • Provide psychological support and nurture a compassionate environment.
  • Perform appropriate patient tests and safely administer medications within the scope of practice.
  • Maintain accurate records related to medications and treatments in accordance with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and physician orders.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients, families, and appropriate team members in a timely manner while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Use available resources to assist with discharge planning.
  • Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals and provide patient care, seeking assistance when needed.
  • Safely operate medical equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in providing care and acclimating to the healthcare environment.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
  • Excellent patient experience skills are preferred.
